FUNNY and it proves a point

Postby Coruscate » Mon Dec 04, 2006 8:36 pm

My point is that position.

Power.

Income.

College degrees.

Family connections.

Business connections.

And even thousands of people who would take your advice in a heart beat if they read it in a paper...

DOESN'T MAKE YOU INTELLIGENT.

Citigroup Exec Turns His NY Penthouse Into a Meth Lab
The trailer-park drug known as "hillbilly crack" has been putting on the Ritz lately - as federal drug agents uncovered a crystal-meth lab inside the $6,000-a-month Manhattan penthouse of a bank executive, authorities said yesterday.

Michael Knibb, an information-technology vice president at Citigroup, ran the sophisticated drug operation from the living room of his luxury apartment overlooking the United Nations, said Drug Enforcement Administration officials.

The 37-year-old Knibb - who makes an estimated $250,000 a year - allegedly told authorities that he had decided to make his own methamphetamines because he could not find a reliable drug dealer after moving to New York from Seattle two years ago.

Knibb was one of 10 alleged do-it-yourself drug makers busted this week as part of a federal anti-meth sweep dubbed Operation Red Fusion.

All the above points are reasonable, though certain collaries may not be. I cannot understand why someone who is filthy rich would do drugs, but money does NOT buy you happiness.

*points at this thread*

This is also who they are.

Look at his age.

Look at his level of power.

While he's not necessarily in their specific group of people (he's most likely known though!!!!), he is what they are.

They are what happens when a plutocracy sets in. The children, who don't need to exercise their mind to work (and have never been taught how) get bored and do stupid things to each other and themselves.

Hm. I'm not sure if I can accept that they are necessarially more stupid then the rest of humanity. They are just more newsworthy.

From birth they have the same capacity as any other human.

But look at in perspective.

You and I.

Are parents are normal.

Our families are normal.

Our incomes are normal.

For us to succeed in life, we have to struggle to get what we want and work hard for it. We have to focus, think, act and succeed. We neither have the money or the free time to party like these guys.

But they do have it and they do get down like that.

Why?

Because they don't need to struggle and they already have success in their grasp.

Our struggle makes us stronger, even in our low moments (which I just went through one), we use our minds, learn new things and progress.

So they don't struggle, they don't have the experience of it or the benefit of that work.

Does anything about what you're reading say they are having such a **mind expanding** experience?

Who exactly are you talking to? It doesn't apply to me at least. So far i have never had to struggle to get anything i wanted apart from correction for gender issues and that would be a struggle for everyone. I litterally slept through high school and yet had a GPA in the upper 5% of all high school graduates that year. I really don't want to be included in your idea of us all being a part of "the people" as opposed to "the elite". It isn't that simple anyway, there are many different gradations and not just the normal people and the corrupt elite. All in all i am probably upper middle class and not upper class, but it still puts me very far from what you call normal people. Of course normal people don't really have to struggle that much in the first place here. The only people who really need to struggle here are immigrants who want to be accepted into society and the children of the most poorly educated people. Very through of those succeed to become stronger people, most break instead. This might mean i have somewhat of a different perspective on this than you

I think you may misunderstand what I mean by struggle.

Ever had a relationship go sour?

Been brought to tears?

Ever been broke at the wrong moment?

Ever had someone stab you in your back?

never been robbed?

Are you seriously telling you haven't had a serious challenge of some sort in your life, no crisises? No dealing with drama that wasn't necessarily your own? Never tried to something for your community or the like that wasn't difficult somehow? There's never been a shadowy moment in your life?

Of course there have been painful moments. Don't bloody tell me that you think anybody reaches adulthood without going through any kind of pain. I have most certainly had to struggle, but not for reasons that can be isolated as not belonging to a specific social class. I have never had true financial trouble, financial trouble has always meant reducing my luxury purchases for me, nothing more. I've never been subjected to any crime worse than forgetting to return something they bought from me. Frankly i can't see the point if any kind of low point is enough then you cannot make a division between "the others" and "us", everyone have had low points that have been painful. However when it comes to those things that you listed as being different between "them" and "us" i am more like "they" are than how "we" are. I have never had to struggle with finance or education, the only thing i've truly had to struggle with has been my own pride and how i myself has interacted with my surroundings and that can be a problem for anybody no matter wealth and connections. Really poverty has been a non-issue for all my life, the same way has striving academically. My large final project in high school was done after 12 hours despite being meant to stretch over an entire week i got what would be 110 percent for it using the american grading curve. I simply haven't had to struggle in that way.

All those things you relate to in this last post have nothing to do with the ones you talked about before and as such can hardly have any bearing on what i wrote in reply to that. But even so i haven't had to struggle against any external force to succeed ever and that is what you talked about in the post preceding mine.

Oh of course not.

All I can say at this point is examine the EXTREMELY HIGH LEVEL of pampering these brats get from cradle until job placement. Where they lack the ability to struggle and think their way out, daddy bails them out like Bush and his college admissions and other crap he coasted by.

When these people hit a bump in the road they buy it off, drop it, shift the blame or ask their parents to save them. Struggle and persevere aren't really in their dialogues.

That's all I can say to point you at what I mean.
