A dress for you...

Postby May-chan » Thu Dec 07, 2006 5:33 pm

Last week after seeing nikkou's clothing design thread I thought I'd start up on something of my own. I just started with a random black blob as most my artwork begins as, and I noticed it strongly resembled a shapely female torso so I worked off of that until I finished just today with MSF's official wedding dress...

I would have tried to make a person wearing it and not just a mannequin, but I ran out of steam and thus I am fine with what I got. A lot of happy mistakes there, and like I said, the shape of the dress and the torso was just an accident in the beginning. The bust is a little wonky but then again breasts are difficult to get right any way.

To make the real thing, as Kerina could explain, it requires some zappy power and an unsuspecting schoolboy... It also might also be a pain to get into and it might feel akward to wear due to the lack of symetry. You also probably want some nice abs as well...

Dedicated to you here at MSF

I like it. It came out really pretty. You did a good job, overall. I quite like the swooshing fabric across the bust, and the asymmetrical sleeves are an interesting notion. And the bow on one side if just cute. :) Putting it over there, and the sort of pleating effect with it, is indeed more visually arresting than just sticking it in the middle. Like the sleeves, asymmetrical catches the eye more. I don't think it'd be any more of a pain to get into than any other formal dress. I mean, those things are annoying anyway. But so long as you have someone to zip you up in the back, it won't be a problem. It's amazing, what a zipper can accomplish. Walking might be a bit tricky, due to the trailing hem on the pleated side, but then again, you're not supposed to move that fast in a wedding dress anyway, now are you? Speaking as a designy person, I approve. :) I'd like to see a full-model person portrait of this, with accessories and all, if you ever feel so inclined.

I have to agree with Guendolen on how the asymmetrical nature of the outfit is great. It fits MSF well I think.

I'm my original plan I wanted to have some dainty patterned chains hanging around the right (our left) shoulder and neck. And if I was going to actually go for the person and all I would have done an elegant long hairstyle with flowers intertwined. I also wanted to use the swirly vine pattern more frequently but only the good attempts stayed.

Hey, art projects don't always go exactly the way you originally planned them. Sometimes they don't look right on paper like they did in your head. The point is that you got a good result with what you did do. :)
