The prion reference was from mad cow disease, also called "spongeform" something or other because your brain literally gets holes eaten into it.

Let's see, how did it go again... Some scientists took some brains of cannibals that had gone looney, from (New?) guinea (was that the place?), buried the brains when they were done with them, back in England, some cattle ate the grass that grew up from that place, containing prions, and viola? Just wondering, since it's been years since I've looked into it. ^_^;
