As a writer myself, I can't say that I don't write for most of the reasons mentioned thus far. Actually, I can kind of understand why. A lot of the readers out there have probably read many stories before ours, and are looking for something different, something that really sets it apart from the rest, or if it sates their interest in something specific. Some will comment on one they find worthy to comment on, some will be thoughtful enough to leave a comment regardless, and others will be asanine and make bad comments because they didn't like something non-technical about it.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm more concerned about producing something that people can enjoy. The problem with that, with a rating feature/poll aside, is that comments are one of the best ways to know if anyone enjoys your work. Other than many other reasons that I have, a part of the whole reason for why it's hard for me to write anything is because I doubt my ability to do so. Which, I'm sure, isn't an alien feeling to other people out there...

Of the few stories that I've actually finished and shown to the public (I have a ton of unfinished stuff that no one will ever see, most likely), only one ever really got much of a response, and most of it was in secret, by the judges. ^_^; I may write another some day... If I ever have enough enthusiasm/inspiration/whatever to do it. I have hundreds on the backburner of my mind, never put down on paper... Or word program... Well, you know what I mean. <.<;

In the end, I'll just go my regular route and be a hypocrite by saying this: "The pen is mightier than the sword, so write against whatever demons/reasons that prevent/discourage you."

Of course, my pun is mightier than the pen... You can borrow it, if anyone wants to. :O

I might have to borrow your mighty pun at some point. Especially if it's mightier than a sword. Speaking for myself, the primary reason I don't post stories here is because I don't get ideas that fit with the primary topical matter of the site. I'm one of the few people here who comes more for the company than for the TG aspect, which I'm not really into. I don't get ideas relating to that. So my writing really isn't relevant here. It's been way too long since I've done any serious writing, in any case....

Well, hate to use this term, but a picture IS worth a thousand words, and man getting 1000 words is tough.

Also, on that lil analyasis of the stories. I wouldnt exactly say they were negative feedbacks, more like constructive criticism. I didnt mind it (also encourage it) because i'm either a pesimistic glutton for punishment, or I feel criticism helps my art, either way.

But yeah, it feels like the "legends" from Jei and Griever just had more of a kick...maybe because the stories truely represented what MSF is/was about?

And mine isnt? j/k

*superliminal thingie* Read Mecchen More! It's fun. It's all still in progress as a work, which is why I prefer to have it on Livejournal, because I can more easily change it when I want to.

Yeah. Real absence of comments. It's why I rather prefer Livejournals because people who I know are interested will comment on it.

I think what we need is a real Story system. Like I've noticed there's a site called Digg.com where is works on user-generated content. And my idea is a system where, like Stories.com or something, you can post up a story and people put comments at the end, but it puts them all together in a pretty, indexed and search-able system. Just a thought. It's a shame there's not an easier and more attractive way to put work up. Same goes for art. A changing, clean index of things.

Well I am no stranger to writing just about any genre you may wish to name, but I am not exactly known for doing any tg work so that is why I honestly haven't put any stories up here anywhere. I usually am working on high fantasy type deals. Also, I will admit, I have confidence issues just slightly less so than that Hinata girl in Naruto so that is another reason why I haven't put anything up here. I will admit though that I might have an idea that would help with the lack of stories. Make a contest out of it, offer some sort of little reward for whoever makes the best one or something. I have found that such things work from time to time to spur peoples creativity.

Oh, criticism does help. That's how we improve, by people telling us what they think we need to work on. But there's a different between constructive criticism and totally ripping a person's work to shreds. I think the idea is to try to be tactful in the phrasing of said criticism, so it really sounds like you're trying to help instead of just lighting into a person and beating down what they just did.
