I know this has been debated before, but seeing two porn ads in the game room makes this the last straw for me. I think guest posting really needs to be shut down.


I know that personally, if I was new to a board or just wanting to make a comment here or there, I would rather be required to register than see a bunch of porn and drug ads scattered about... So I don't see any reason why guest posting should be continued unless someone here has devised a way to destroy all the bots on the earth...

If you know anything that can stop bots from posting, that'd help. Registered spam accounts aren't too much to be worried about since I take care of them daily, since the majority of them are meant to be made but never used.

I think I have an idea on how to stop spam completely, but I can't be sure until I know how bots browse and all that. Which is why I have that topic in this room.

Yes, but with the few that I know, I don't know where to find the mods. One mod is a captcha, but even the best of those are starting to see more bots getting past them. There's the mod that makes guest posts invisible to the public until they're allowed by someone (like a mod or admin, who can see them), and there's one that asks for a password.

I've come across a few others, even for the bots that register, but some of them seemed to not be supported or whatever.

My sujestion is that if the botes are all comeing from the same IP, IP ban it. If bots are uesing a IP mask then make account needed.

From what I've learned (if I was able to learn anything, anyway), banning IPs should be considered last since IPs can be shared or something. And some people have masks that change regularly, so they may end up using a banned IP and be inconvenienced for the duration that they use that mask. Or something. *Scratches head*

You also have to worry about people using proxy servers, that'll give them a dynamic IP address, soooo~ in other words they'll be able to post even if you do ban the punks.
