The fourm were I come from, we were small and knew every one there very well. We too had a issue of 3 members, lived blocks apart, but all had the same IP's. Now this happens mainly with AOL, becaues of the way they set up there IP's and such. From what I've learn when I was a modator there AOL is one of the few ISP's that do that. So a IP ban realy only back fires when you ban a AOL ueser. (I think People PC is also does that too)

Now if you just ues some simple IP tools that tell you who there ISP is, you can avoid the mistake of banning whole areas from your site. A IP ban is not always a bad thing, and when it comes to consent trolls, spammers, ect. It's one of the best options.

What about a typing filter? Or whatever they're called. Those things that look like this:

5ty3e
Enter the above

And it won't let you through unless you type in the numbers and letters as shown.

Or have you already discussed that and I just have no idea that you did?

I'm starting to doubt it could be bots with the frequency of the attacks (hi everyone :D)

I get the feeling that what we've got here is something akin to a 4chan/SomethingAwful attack. Would be mucha ppreciated it someone could look into that, but for all we know, we may just have one or two disgruntled members who quit and decided to get back at everyone here.
Even then, bots don't/can't autonomously search out message boards to spam on. They're directed by someone with the intent of bothering everyone there.
I can almost garuantee that this is the work of some smarmly asshat (technical term) who's giggling his ass off because our mods have to delete their threads.

Actually, they are web crawlers. They are made to search out message boards and spam them. Besides, MSF is not an aislated case, there are more than thousands of forums spammed by bots.

A 4chan/somethingawful attack would consist in the spaming of nsfw images. Those posts seem like the normal spam bot, so it's nothing new.

Aww, I was really hopin' we would all get together in a locked building and try and figure out who The Bot Thing was ;p.

PS - I came here from antarctica but I swear it isn't me

I really wish I knew the business model of this bots. Pissing a ten thousand people off per sale just doesn't seem like it should be a good idea. My only logical explanation is that the bots are all controlled by a sentient internet AI which is trying to gain economic power and enslave mankind, one transaction at a time.
