Do you like to argue?

Postby Mitera Nikkou » Sat May 12, 2007 7:48 pm

While I stared up at the ceiling with a face void of expression... I wondered if I liked to argue. I certainly seem to do it a lot, even for something silly (such as arguing how Satan is God's female equivalent).

Perhaps it's something that I have fallen back on to attempt to fill in an empty life. I really don't know. I guess my jury is out for now. Maybe I'll figure it out someday.

I perfer to avoid arguements. You can never convince your counterpart they are wrong and they can never truly prove your incorrect. Personally I think a disagreement is settled better through both just dropping the issue entirely and going about their business or duking it out and whoever is left standing was correct.

I HATE arguments and arguing.

However, I LOVE a good debate.

I enjoy arguments and arguing when I win. I enjoy them more when it requires all my inteligence and strategy skills to beat my opponent.

I like philosophical debates too.

Depends on what you term arguing. I get satisfaction out of a good intelligent debate. However, a fruitless fight is irritating and frustrating and overall something to avoid.

"I have better things to do"
My mother likes to argue even about small things, so I became her counterpart, whoo dislikes arguing in most cases.
But sometimes, yes sometimes there isn't anything better to do, when no intellectual conversation would change anything and the `conversation´-partner has transformed from reasonable to stupid little kid, then I use all my arguing experience, I got from my mother to show the other one how- I don't want to say stupid, but mostly their oppinions were, so- unthoughtfull they were. ^.^

Simply the act of it, when at least one side disagrees with at least one other. A debate is just a civil or contest-inspired arguement. If you like civil arguements or ones of contest over those that can get stupid, ugly and negative and such, then fractionalize the factors and see if you end up with liking arguments (in general) a little, disliking them a little, or if you end up at some midpoint. Or if one aspect totally outweighs the others and you totally hate it or like it. Something like that.

Arguing is good, if you just sit around with your own viewpoints they get stagnant after a while.

I love debates...And arguing, too <<;
Either way, even if my opponent is taking the side that I usually take, I argue the opposite. The most recent example of this was on IRC when Garath was talking about 'Battle Royale,' and how he'd rebel against its creators. Where I agreed with everything(for the most part) that he said, I don't like agreeing with people until all points have been brought up <<;

I have no problem with comparing ideals, which is how I try to avoid stagnation, but I dislike the act of arguing. Its far too time consuming and eventually gets noisy if both people don't back down. My main problem with arguements are they are usually about opinions and mine are usually set in stone. No matter how valid the other persons point is, assuming they even express it plainly enough for me to understand what they are meaning, it doesn't alter my opinion. The same seems to usually be true for the other person.

That's exactly why I love a debate Raleigh, my opinions are rarely set in stone anymore. Plus I love approaching an idea from another viewpoint. I can usually take many sides in any given debate and usually only end up debating the side that isn't being represented.

I understand that, and honestly I tend to see every issue from a dozen viewpoints myself, but my opinion is my opinion regardless of how valid the other viewpoint is. I recall someone who argued with me on something and everything they said was both valid and true. However, none of it invalidated my own point so we still had to just stop becauase he was getting upset that I wouldn't concede. I suppose what makes it hard for me to have a good debate is the fact that I accept reality is full of hipocracy and paradox and it doesn't bother me. Two equally opposite and supposedly exclusive things can be true at the same time in reality is the way I look at it.

I have better things to do with arguing since it's generally not a very constructive form of discussion.

On the internet, I just ignore them unless I have responsibility, at which point I'd end it.

Real life on the other hand, I'm just mean in arguments, or totally dismissive depending on how much I care.

Hmm...

If an Opinion can't be wrong, then you can only have an opinion about things that involve only your own personal taste.
