I don't think that anyone's saying that IRC is bad in some way, that have used it. It just depends on tastes and what works best for them. For instance, someone who doesn't have a lot of time for socializing might prefer the forums because any activity that happens won't be missed when they next check in. Though someone may still prefer IRC in that case, perhaps because they can interact more to try and make up for the lack of time.
For me, even if I wanted to be anywhere for a while, I'm easily distracted and otherwise have a hard time being consistent. The longer that I keep doing the same thing the more tedious and/or boring it gets, too. So I prefer to switch between things and save IRC for when nothing else is on my mind since it's much easier for me to do other things while browsing and checking the forums than keeping track of what's going on in IRC.
Actually, I'm surprised that anyone likes IRC, what with me being there from time to time. ;p I guess that would include the forums even more so... Are ye all mad!?
