Demons are pretty awesome, but men are better because you don't see any truly remarkable specimens come out of demonkind. You have your garden-variety demons, and then you have... your insanely powerful demons. And having a bunch of power doesn't make one awesome.
And you don't make a better case for dinosaurs than Lian does. They're a bunch of dumb, lazy, under-evolved lizards that already went extinct, save for a few pockets of survivors that are usually hunted down for sport or used as mounts by more intelligent creatures.
The most awesome of the dinosaur-like species would have to be the Reptites - again, because of their similarity to humans - at least before they were all defeated by a time-traveling samurai and then destroyed by Lavos' arrival on Earth...

Humans are REptite like not the other way around. Dinosaurs did it first. Humanity in general is a race of posers. Walking upright? Dinosaurs. Tools? Dinosaurs. even ignoring the obviousness of Dinosaur posering of humanity we go into fantasy worlds.

Go with Tolkien. First race? Elves. Everything of human culture bastardization of elfin works.

And so many worlds take that trope mixing it up occasionally with Dragons, or catgirls or whatever.. but in the end humanity is and always will be that poser kid who thinks he's cool because he's doing things all the other races did thousands or millions of years ago.

He's only cool in the movie where he's played by a human. He sticks far more to his elvish traits in the book, where the only real difference between him and elves is general is that he makes friends with a dwarf.

Besides, bacterium and standing water are just plain awesome. Elves could never compare.

Yeah... I don't buy that at all.
And it doesn't change the fact that reptites bit it while humans lived on. Humans: 1. Reptites: Nada.
If we're just a bunch of posers, then at least we're the most awesome posers there are!
Look at Warhammer. Humans took the elves' magic. We took the dwarves' technology. We took all the stuff that was useful to us and copied it, and then forged the biggest, baddest empire around. Men rock.

Can't argue with that logic...

Faeries shouldn't be considered on my account. XD I'm not really sure what qualifies for awesomeness, so I'll give some information about faeries and draw conclusions from that. ;/

Faeries vary greatly, more so than humans. First there's the deity-like variety, which are responsible for maintaining the ebb, flow and constance of reality. These faeries herald the transition into new seasons, where the wind blows, how much cloud cover there is and when, where and how much it rains, et cetera. Many of those things are usually accomplished by the faeries that they command. Another group of faeries live like humans do, and they're capable of all sorts of things. These faeries can, with just a pinch, bring upon any number of maladies upon a human, or even kill them. These kind of faeries also tend to show their skill for making things or performing arts to perfection, and as many times as they've shared their goods and services their secrets (and/or quality of them) have never been taken/duplicated by humans. How they treat humans vary from one faery to another, but most prefer to be left alone by them. Another group of faeries are the ones borne from human ideas or emotions (usually fear, which tends to be a very strong and prevalent emotion among emotions). If either is strong enough, these self-fulfilling faeries come to be. For instance, if anyone were worried enough about children drowning in a river, a faery will be there, one that likes to pull children under the water to drown them. Or, if people are afraid of getting lost somewhere, there will be faeries to lead them astray.

There's some more but I'm too tired to get into them. Although I'd also like to mention that most faeries can either fly, shape-shift, remain invisible, or any combination of those things. Faeries can be foiled in some ways (if, for instance, you're lucky enough to have a four-lead clover or a stone with a hole that had been naturally made, or know enough to wear your shirt inside out for specific faeries), and most weaknesses are usually particular to the individual faerie (such as Rumpletstiltskin, whose weakness was the utterance of its real name). There's cold iron, of course; it can be deadly, but if there are any (and to what degree) depends on the time frame and if there are other races that wrought iron in such a way. Otherwise they don't have much to fear. They just like to keep to themselves and even the kind faeries will do horrible things to humans that bother or insult them: such as incurable diseases that leave humans incapable of doing much more than breathing, or simply killing them in some way or another. There's one story that I came across where a man unknowingly stumbled near some faery event (and if faeries hate anything more than having their space invaded, it's having their affairs interrupted as well). He had been slain. ;/ In other cases, where a human is trapped in the faery realm, they can trick humans into thinking that a log is the dead body of that person and they wouldn't know it even as they carry it and prepare it for burial.

So... I like faeries, and I think they're beyond awesome. I really like diversity and faeries have that in just about every way imaginable. I bet there's a Chuck Norris faery somewhere, too. XD

Ah, but the supposed awesomeness of the Chuck Norris fairy is offset by the existence of Navi from Zelda 64.

Nope just posers. Lame lame posers. You don't build anything new. Even teh Elves made a chaos god. What chaos god can say "man kinds mistakes made me?" no one..

Faeries are included just like everything else that people have suggested despite the fact I don't care too greatly, like the mid-childans. Besides, faeries are the most awesome race in EQ2 since they can glide, so that's enough to warrant their position.

[Comartemis, note my previous description of why you should only consider the best of a group. The annoying faeries, therefore, do not detract from their race's potential awesomeness. :D ]

That part about the Chaos Gods is certainly true.
I mean, I personally consider it a point vastly in the favor of human awesomeness that they weren't so full of themselves and hedonistic that they ended up ripping a hole in time and space with their stupidity, but I cannot argue the fact that they did not.
As for the poser argument... sorry. I don't judge entire species using the same standards as I might use to criticize people's fashion choices in high school. You're free to, of course, but I personally find the ability and intelligence to take precisely what we want from the world around us and thrive above and beyond the so-called "superior ancient races" that "did it first" perfectly awesome. I don't really care if the elves did magic before humans; look where it got them. They have a single puny island and a slowly shrinking population whose favorite pasttime is gloating about how great and mighty they used to be. That screams "losers".

Above and beyond? Bull. They are children playing in the ruins of greatness. Taking what their primitive minds can possibly grasp. The Dwarf Kingdom is still in its death throws and when it happens humanity will bear the brunt of the green Skins. The Empire is not on par with the Elves of old.. or the Dwarves.. and DEFINATELY not the Slann.. they may not even be on par with the Ogre of old. Perhaps Cathay is.. but its ruled by a Dragon.

Yeah. So? If they didn't, they'd be wiped out.
And despite their inexperience and youth, they do a darn good job with their primitive minds too.

(Shrugs)
We'll have to agree to disagree. The Dwarves, Lizardmen, and Elves are all dying empires that can't sustain their own populations under the same conditions under which the humans are thriving. Right there, in my opinion, men become more awesome than they are, regardless of all other considerations. Maybe not more awesome than they USED to be, but I see no reason to count the empires that already crumbled and can't be restored.
Oh, another point in men's favor: every time the Empire gets its butt kicked, it gets rebuilt in something like two generations to maintain its position as the strongest power in the Warhammer World. Go men.

None of 'em. The one you want to put on there are the Viera. Either them or the Nu Mou.
Why the Viera? Simple: Nobody knows how they reproduce. XD *dies of laughter*

... No, seriously, now. All their skills are incredible. They're spiritual, agile, and the perfect quick fighters. :D

Nu Mou? Magic. Also, they can transform into monsters. :3
