Both can succeed or fail in the right or wrong hands.
Government run catches people in the worst conditions.
But new health techniques and what not develop in more market free envirornments.
Poorly run, the government system could dissuade people researching or entering the field, it may make things worse. Run well it could make things better.
I think we need to review the private system and forcefully cut the fat out of areas where the public is getting scammed to death, and that should help lower costs. Combine that with a little government assistant for the poor and we should have a workable compromise and keep the freer market version of all this.
