Pink rabbit versus the ferocious wolf

Postby Mitera Nikkou » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:12 am

First, if Link to the Past is canon, does that effect the fact that he becomes a wolf in Twilight Princess? So, if a cute, pink rabbit is a reflection of his heart in Link to the Past, does the wolf form complement him at all?

Discuss.

I've always thought the 'Bunny Link' to be a mockery of the hero created by Ganon's control of the Triforce while the 'Wolf Link' is supposed to be some protection granted by the Triforce of Courage or something like that. While the Pink Bunny Link is annoyingly helpless, Wolf Link is perfectly suited to surviving the Twilight Realm.

But it can't be a mockery considering what becomes of the bully and the guy being bullied. (At least, as far as I can tell, the meanie looks like a meanie while the one that lets himself get kicked around becomes ball-like.) I can't say that I understand how the Twilight realm works, as I've yet to play that game, but the Dark world seems to be perfectly clear about how it works. (I mean, if the Triforce were used to focus on Link in specific, then getting that orb-thing wouldn't have been able to do anything about his form in the Dark world. This is the tri-force we're talking about...) It just comes down to believing what a pink rabbit could mean of Link's personality. And when you think about it, a pink rabbit, at the very least, isn't too far off; at least from how I understand Link. He seems to maintain his innocence and good-naturedness, for instance. And then one of his main support groups consistently becomes the all-female faeries, so... I can see a pink bunny. I've just wondered how he'd feel about being a wolf, so different as it is from being a rabbit. Twilight princess is the "darkest" Zelda game to date (I think), after all. Not exactly the same environment as the one in Link to the past, Ocarina of time and Windwaker.

You also have to take into consideration the fact that they are two different Links. They both may be changed based upon their personality, and just have varied personalities. Also, the Twilight Realm and the Dark World may just be different in how they effect the people who hold the triforce.

Hmmm... I think Link would prefer the wolf to the bunny because he isn't as helpless. Sure he has to put up with Midna riding him wherever he goes, but think about it! It's less embarassing then being a pink rabbit who can't even wield a sword!

Well, of course he would prefer the wolf over the rabbit. I doubt he has a choice. If he did, he's probably pick to stay Hylian, or to become a dragon or something. I just think perhaps LttP Link was more timid than TP Link, leading to the bunny form.

Yeah I suppose. Isn't the Link from LttP supposed to be younger anyways?

Two different Links or not, I think Miyamoto intended them to be the same at their very core.

In reality Link probably wouldn't have been helpless as a rabbit-person. I think it was just a stipulation in the game since it clearly makes no sense to be unable to use anything in that form. But that's just my opinion. I mean, as the argument stands, the wolf can't wield a sword, either. The wolf has teeth, claws and can use its weight more efficiently for attacks, but that doesn't make the bunny helpless. Well, if you disregard the stipulation in the game, anyway.

On the other hand, if being a pink rabbit reflected his heart, I don't see what would be so embarrassing about it.

He should pick to be a faery. Mwa-ha-ha!

And I don't see how he could be timid. You don't see timid people having courageous adventures so willingly. :P

Perhaps the dark world turns you into the opposite of what you are. I associate rabbits with being timid, at least. So perhaps Triforce of courage+Dark World=Pink Bunny.

Shadow has a good point. As for the fairy you can temporarily turn into a fairy in Legend of Zelda II: Links Adventure with the Fairy Spell. Not sure if personality has any effect on that though... Maybe if you're wicked you turn into a Miniblin.

It clearly says that the Dark world makes you into a reflection of your own heart, not the opposite of that. If that were true, Link would have lost his morals and become evil as well as cowardly. Of course, it's only a physical transformation, not a mental one, and a pink bunny is closer to (or is exactly) how Link is, rather than what he is completely not. I think the pink bunny is more of a reflection of his positive nature than of some weakness. (And he's simply not timid.)

As for becoming a faery, I've been hoping for that spell to come back. Because it could come in handy. And faeries rock. They help Link in all sorts of ways, and are responsible for many of the useful things he has at his disposal.

This makes me consider writing that Zelda fan-fiction idea I had...
