Fraid, it's true: Gary Gygax the grandfather of all role-playing games died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

I hear you. He accomplished so much- at least, that influenced my world. If he hadn't created those first rules all those years ago, my life and the lives of the vast majority of my real-life friends would be extremely different....

It would be really hard to imagine what my life would be like today if I hadn't been introduced to D&D (Basic) by a friend back before most of the people on this site were even born. My love for his game has waxed and wained over the years, but while I might lay other games, the fact is, if I hadn't of started with D&D, I never would have picked up the others. When I think about the countless hours, beer, chips, pizzas, etc I am in awe. Lunch time D&D started in high school. Last day of finals D&D was a fixture for my college years. After college my gaming might have gone on the net, my groups being scattered now quite literally accross the globe.

Granted I could live without seeing Tomb of Horrors again. Still, by and large I will remeber him fondly.

i may not know the game like others, for i am a newb to newer stuff, i am still quite young. 1991. but hey, if he were not around i would hate to see some of the Rpg that would be not quite as good for the fact that they wouldn't have had a good back bone behind them.

and I also feel bad at the loss of a human life, i still don't see why we have to die before 70. lets face it. i really don't see anyone alive to day as terribly old, because if we think about the earth on a grand scale the oldest person 117? is only a small layer of dirt on the crust of the earths surface.

I know. Gary was like the cool uncle every gamer had, and though I never got to meet the man myself, I heard he was a real nice, generous man who would often have fans of D&D over to his house just to talk about how much the game affected their lives and just hang out.
