Melanie begins eating her meal, blushing deeper still. (Why is he being so nice to me....) she thought in her head. She lets loose a slight giggle, going back into her food. (Nobody besides my parents has ever been this kind... or even paid this much attention... it's so weird...) She soon finishes the chili and drink. "Excuse me." She said calmly, trying to hide the blush but it still clearly visible. "I'm ready for dessert."

*Amy runs in with a sledge hammer straight for me.*
Me: Eep! *runs off)

"Here you go!" Edward said placing the strawberry ice cream in front of her, "Better be sure Dante doesn't try and steal it!"

He left however before she had a chance to respond to that.

"Um, do you need help closing up the shop, Edward? I don't have much homework to do, and I don't really feel like going home right now, so..."

Scott hoped that Edward would accept his offer. He didn't want to numb his mind with the loads of busy work school gave him, and he definitely didn't want to shut himself up in his room for the rest of the night and further develop his growing depression. With Sandra gone, there was only Edward left... Only Edward there to keep the bad thoughts out of his mind.

"Please? I promise I can clean everything up in a jiff! You know that I know this restaurant like I know the back of my hand!"

"Scott, with Sandra gone, I've been running around like a chicken with his head cut off all day, and this was only the lunch rush. You help me close shop, and not only is your dinner free, but I'll give you twenty bucks!" He said with a bit of a laugh.

Course Edward didn't just let Scott stay because he needed the help (which he did. Badly) But also because he felt that Scott needed some time out and away from his home. He was sure the loss of Sandra was a heavy blow to the kid, and Edward hoped it wouldn't have a negitive effect on the lad. He was a good friend after all.

(Quick word of warning: Today and tomorrow (The 10th and the 12th of June) are the last days we can post to this game for about a week. I'll be REALLY out of town from Thursday to the next wensday. So go ahead and finish up the dinner stuff and go to evening. I want to see if maybe we can start the transformations soon. Also I'm not sure how much time if any I'll have tomorrow, so just FYI. Sorry about this.)

With his bill paid and stomach full, Mike exits the restaurant with the keys to his car in his hand. He walks up to said car, a maroon '91 Honda Civic that's practically falling apart. Mike climbs in and starts it, slowly accelerating to the road and driving to a small grocery store a mile or two down and climbs back out, putting on a white button-up shirt and black tie. The smells of a thousand human bodies, chips, meat, and every other conceivable buy-able good fills his senses as he slumps his shoulders and clocks in. He quickly slaps a plastic smile on his face as he walks up to one the front office to collect his till, then to a register to begin his afternoon shift. Several other employees greet him with friendly casual waves. The first order comes up and he sets to work.

Maria finished her lunch in no time. It was all excellent fare, and besides, she did need to get back to work. Now, did you wait for a bill to be brought to you, or just go up to the counter to pay?... Best do the latter, as a precaution. She would even take her own dishes off the table, if they so desired. Either way, though, she migrated up and got out her wallet, set to pay for her meal.

Melanie finishes eating her meal, smiling. "Wow, that was good." She gets up, quietly gathering the dishes, and lays them on a nearby counter, money next to them. She headed out the door, going to the nearby mall. "I guess doing some shopping wouldn't hurt..."

As Maria walked up to the counter, Edward just happened to come out of the back just then.

"Oh hey, done with your meal? Thanks for being honest and comming up here to pay. I've gotten a few ditchers in my time..." He sighed. With Sandra gone he really was in a fix. If it wasn't for honest regular customers he'd never be able to keep this old place going.

"Sorry, don't mean to get all sentimental on ya, that'll be nine bucks. Six for the yakisoba, two for the miso, and a buck for the tea."

(Yes the game is unpaused so feel free to begin posting again. As for the price of the meal, I believe that's about what you'd pay in Japan for it. I had curry a lot and it cost me about seven bucks a plate. Course I know this wasn't curry, but the other things I ate were all around the same price. Six/seven bucks.)

Melanie continued looking around the mall, wondering what to do now. "Well... maybe some things to help out with my new job tomorrow wouldn't hurt..." She said to herself, getting some nice soap, bath fixings, and the like.

After checking his 1,187th item (you count every one when you have nothing better to do), Mike finally got his break. He's now sitting in the back break room munching quietly on a turkey sandwich and donut from the store's deli. A TV is playing The Simpson's in the background, but the sound is off. After a few moments, while Mike is sipping his Dr. Pepper, a bulky young man with black hair and the workers' uniform of a white shirt and tie walks in and sits next to him. His name tag reads "Houston".
"Hey, Houston." "Hey, Arch Angel, what's up?" "Bored as hell. Can't wait to get home. The usual." This has been the ritual for several months: Check for four hours, get a lunch break, work two more hours, get a snack break, talk with Houston or Jess, check for four more hours, go home. "Well, at least pay day's tomorrow, right?" Mike asked as the final question of this ritual. "Yeah, but I wouldn't expect much. What happened to all our hours?" "I don't know, man. Maybe it's the gas prices," Mike replied. They'd both been getting fewer and fewer hours compared to their first few months. They had applied at roughly the same time and became fast friends. Granted, Houston had a tendency to go over his break time limit, often dragging Mike down with him, but nobody's perfect. Besides, he owed Mike money.
"Well, my break's almost over," Mike said, standing. "No, man, stay here. Leanna doesn't care. We get paid for break, anyway." A brief pause, then Mike sits. "Alright. It's not really busy out there anyway, is it?" "Nope, one or two orders. Nothing else."
They sat and talked for a few minuets more before Mike's conscience finally forced him up to go back out and begin the rest of his shift, whether he wanted to or not. As he ran a can of dog food over the scanner and listened to the monotonous beeping, he wished he could do something big, something he could get recognized for, instead of just running up the hierarchy of the grocery store. Oh, well, he at least had pay day to look forward to.

"Of course I'm not going to just walk out! That's hardly fair to you. People like that ought to be ashamed of themselves." Maria fished into her wallet, got out a ten and passed it over. "Keep the change. Your place is excellent, and I'll definitely be back. And if I come across anyone looking for work, would you like me to send them by?"

After that things began to slow down, picking up again only around dinner. Edward was glad for Scott's offer to help him out, and really hoped he (Scott) didn't need to leave out on it for any reason.

"You bet I'll be around!" Maria called back cheerfully, waving one last time before heading out. He's a real nice guy. And operated a good joint, too. Hm, maybe she could get together a group of co-workers to come by sometime for a group lunch. After he hired some more help, of course. Didn't want to see the poor man overwhelmed, after all!

Ray snapped his head up and sucked in some air. He'd nodded off again. He placed his bookmark and set the book down before taking a good stretch. "Man, it's still light out. Might as well get something done." He started fishing through the odd car parts on the floor, looking for the missing head gasket for his coffee table. "Where did I put that thing?"
