"How is she doing?" asked Paul
"She's fine" said a nearby technician. They were in front of a large capsule filled with a pale blue liquid. Suspended inside, was Kate, naked and looking far less hybrid than she did before. "Her regression is currently at 42%, at this rate she will once again be completely human within four hours."
"Very well" said Paul, "Continue with your work."
"Sir" said the tech, "We found some organic samples of the anomaly on her uniform. Permission to extract it and use for analysis."
"Granted" said Paul, "Hopefully this will not have been a complete waste."
"What was this war they mentioned?" asked Tina
"A senseless one." said Absol, "As most wars tend to be. It started when Aiko assumed command. Through a combination of her change of objectives away from the planned conversion runs and negligence to communicate to hybrids posted outside of the main base, a large number of hybrids broke off from the main group and began running even more rampant than before. Shortly after, those still loyal to The Master and his cause also left with a large amount of the serum and joined forces with the deserters. To make matters worse, when the hybrids' existence became common knowledge, the Witch Hunt began. Many, many hybrids were killed; beaten, tortured, publicly executed, it didn't matter if they stilled lived as humans or not, all they could catch were persecuted. It really was as though the world had gone back into the dark ages. I myself, was wandering at the time, avoiding pretty much all contact with pokemon, humans and hybrids alike. However, when this started to happen I lent a hand, only going so far as to aid the escape of fleeing hybrids, and when the hybrids began to strike back, I did the same for fleeing humans. Eventually, up on her throne, Aiko noticed what was going on and deployed hybrid troops, who only added fuel to the fire. Eventually, when it started to look like all out war, with the extinction of one race as the only outcome, both the hybrid and human governments decided on one last attempt to stop it. In the end, with a peacekeeping force of both humans and hybrids, the conflict was halted and a truce drawn up. Since then, most large groups of hybrids and humans have lived separately, with a few exceptions, places that were not touched by the war, places such as this.
Meanwhile rouge, forgotten groups of both hybrids and humans have roamed the lands doing as they please; stealing, converting, killing. To make things even worse the hybrid deserters found even more sympathizers in the many witch hunt refugees they came across first, and absorbed into their numbers. Now labeled as 'Radicals' by Aiko's followers, these hybrids are making an active attempt to claim the world for themselves, be if for revenge, personal gain, or a longing to regain somewhere they can belong. Whatever their reason they have a tendency to be part of a race to any new hybrids who awaken, and if both teams meet, people get caught in the crossfire and drafted into either side. Here, I am keeping this town safe from that. If any people from any group with harmful intent arrive, I along with anyone who assists me, drive them out and make sure that they don't come back again."
"Such foolish strife this mortal world brings upon itself." said Tina
"That is true, but there must be such things in the worlds you are charged with." said Absol
"The spectral realm, is a primitive, savage place in comparison to this world, every day is as though one were in the wild." said Tina, "Yes, there is conflict, but only when necessary. In the Astral plain, things don;t tend to exist or be awake long enough for conflicts to start."
"I see" said Absol
"Who was that boy?" asked Tina, "He seemed significant, and you seemed to know him."
"He is....." said Absol, as she began to recount the events of the past couple of days.
