The Sampson Inheritence

Postby Shadell » Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:10 pm

(Given that this is set up as a competition, feel free to inform me of any off-screen activity you wouldn't want others to notice via. pm instead of post.))

The black car ground to a halt as it pulled up to the mansion's front door. The engine died and the driver's side door opened. Soon, a tall man in a suit stepped outside of the car. His pale hair and equally pale skin were obvious inheritance from some northern European immigrant so many generations ago. The man reached back in for a few moments to grab his briefcase. Then he locked the door, closed it, and walked up to the door. He fished around in his pockets briefly before producing a large key. Slowly the man raised the key to the door.

Just before the key touched the lock, the man stopped. It would be better to wait for the winners to arrive. The will had specified that he was to be dramatic, and keeping everyone outside until the event formally started seemed commensurate with that goal. It was his job, after all, to honor his clients' last requests, and the money Sampson had paid him was more then enough to ensure he ran the man's joke

The man took a second to glance around at the estate that would be his home for the next week as he monitored the winners and helped them reach an agreement. The gardens were expansive, large to the point of being ridiculous, with three pools, a tennis court, and even a baseball diamond. Sampson, oddly enough, had hated sports. Why he'd have these built was anyone's guess. The man shook his head ruefully. The day he understood his eccentric client would be the day he died.

He turned his head back to the only road that led to the house. It was a dirt road. After all, there wasn't another house, much less any sign of civilization for a few hour's drive. Everything else in this area was forest. Jeffrey Sampson, public figure though he may have been, held a great enjoyment for privacy when he could find it.

Indeed, it was no wonder that Sampson had pored a few of his copious millions into buying and renovating the old building. The man sighed. He hadn't been Samson's greatest friend; but, the two had not been strangers, and the mansion, though the man had never seen Sampson here, seemed to fit the odd millionaire to a T. Large, with hundreds of rooms, most of which would never be used. A mish-mash from varying ages, half of the things there looking like they'd been put there for the sole expediency of fitting in, despite the fact that the mansion was designed to be isolated and private. It was, like Jeffrey Sampson himself, a study in contradictions.

The man pulled up one sleeve to glance at his rolex. It was time, the winners, no, the contenders, would be arriving soon, ready to determine who, out of a collection of strangers, would inherit well over a hundred million dollars.
Hmm.... Does anyone actually read these anyway?

*Eric Edward Embleton arrives at the estate as he gets out of the car.*

"Wow this is quite a set up here. Is this the Sampson Estate?"

*Eric looks around.*

(Due to my work schedule I may not be able to post all the time. If I need a recap I will read the previous posts.)

Emil after a long drive arrives at the estate. He walks up to the front of the smansion seeing a very well dressed man.
"Excuse me I'm here for the Inheritance thing..."
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

(Past tense, right? Just want to make sure.)

After several hours of driving through long winding roads in the woods and hopelessly asking for directions from clueless pedestrians, Samuel finally arrived at the mansion. To be honest, he was hoping that he wouldn't find it. He had to get ready for college, after all, and this mansion competition thing sounded like a big waste of time. He didn't have a choice in the matter, though; the moment his friends and family heard that he was accepted as one of the contestants, they hounded him day and night to go.

"I don't see what the big deal is. It's just a mansion...." He muttered under his breath as he exited his vehicle and walked up to the front porch to meet the tall, black-suited man. "So, um, this is the Sampson Mansion Competition, right?"

/Several minutes later, Will arrives at the estate, pausing both to catch his breath and to marvel in wonder at the awesome scale of the place.
The nearest bus stop, as he had found, was a ways aways, making it a fair walk up to the building, but...it was certainly worth it.
Moreso if he won, of course, but nevertheless, it was quite the spectacle, if an odd one, both from it's eccentric construction...and the fact that there was no doubt rarely anyone around to show it off to...
Seeing a small crowd already, he hastens to join them./

"I take it I have arrived at the Sampson Estate then, sir?"

Back in the woods... a distant rumbling can be heard. After a minute or so a red dirt bike can be seen turning a corner of the dirt road, kicking up a dust cloud. A man in a red motorcycle jacket and pants rockets up the road, at an unneccesary speed and doing unneccessary wheelies.

Eventually he touches down at the entrance, taking off his helmet to reveal his short spiky brown hair and laughing eyes.

Its Jacob!

Yelling over to the man in the suit. "Yo! Is there a garage to put this thing in? I'm not leaving my baby sitting outside in the middle of these crazy woods."

He pats his bike... it has detailed flame decals on it, and probably costs more than he can afford.

After quite a long drive, Jim finally laid eyes on the Sampson estate, and the group of people standing in front of it. He gets out of his car, stretching. He walks over to the group and looks around. "So, we ready to start this thing?"

The man in the suit continued to wait in silence as the winners arrived one by one. Periodically he would glance at his Rolex. Sampson had requested he be both mysterious and dramatic, though the man wasn't sure why. But Sampson had been a friend and it didn't cost him anything to acquiesce to the man's last request, even if he didn't usually react this way. Slowly, as he remained silent, he began to smirk enigmatically. It was fun to be a bit spooky every now and then.

"We're just waiting for Mr. Green, then we can start. One of the servants will take care of all the vehicles while we are all inside. Once Mr. Green arrives, I will go over the rules for this week once more."

Jacob looks unhappy about this. "Fine, but... if I find a scratch on my baby that wasnt there before at the end of all of this there will be hell to pay."

He gets off his bike, leaving his helmet on it, and walks up the steps to the others.

The man idly wondered how, or when Roger had arrived before shrugging. Good. Now that we're all gathered, if you'd follow me. With a short chuckle, it added to the suspense, the man inserted his key into the lock and turned. Then he grabbed the handle and slowly pushed the door open. Naturally it creaked. The man quickly led the group through the rather simple entrance hall into a large dining room. There was a grand chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a long dark wood table. Off to the side there was what seemed to be the entrance to a kitchen.

"Please be seated." The man gestured toward the numerous seats at the table as he took the one at the head. "I am Mr. Lawrence, the executor of Sampson's will. You all, are the lucky winners. Over the course of the next week we are to create an agreement which everyone finds appealing as to the disposition of the will. There's no hurry, since by the terms of Sampson's will anyone who leaves the estate before a week has passed is to be excluded from the will. Are there any questions?"
