Age of Darkness Concept/Signup

Postby Haylie » Fri Dec 26, 2008 2:06 pm

So, I had another idea for an RP that probably won't make it to the end, but I figure, "What the hell, I'll do it anyway."

Scenario: Post-apocalyptic US. Somewhere in what used to be Oklahoma. Roughly year 2015. Nobody's sure anymore. The sun hasn't risen in what feels like an eternity. The world's been run over with what were once thought of as myths, known only as the "darkness". Witches run amok, zombies crop up out of nowhere, werewolves tear up the foolish, and vampires rampage through the lands in search of fresh blood. A few humans remain, very few, and they're scattered, outnumbered, and terrified.

Except for an elite group. One small team of both humans and beasts trying to drive back the monsters so civilization may flourish again. They may not win, but they're gonna try.

Play-ables:
Human (basic, physically weak but smart, immune to everything except physical attacks)
Witch/Warlock (tough and almost immune to physical attacks, good with spells of all sorts, weak against silver, or salt mixed with iron,\; moderately intelligent)
Vampire (immune to most physicals except wood stakes to the heart, silver, salt mixed with iron; cunning, short-tempered, very physically strong)

Humans generally rely on their ability to adapt to almost any conceivable situation. They mostly use technologies like guns or tools as weapons. Their main incentive is just to survive, and save as many loved ones as possible, but a few may have been driven mad with terror and work more for the darkness than anything, but aren't officially aligned to anyone. It's somewhat easy to tell who's friendly and who isn't, but usually only by their actions.

Witches and warlocks rely on their magical powers to survive. Most of these are evil and want power, but a few just want to be left alone, and these are the ones that work with the humans. Their actions are purer, and so are their appearence. They're easily distinguished from their evil counterparts. They walk the fine line of good and evil, for they must use the darkness to fight it.

Vampires, for the most part, work with the darkness to feed their insatiable lust for blood. The older and wiser ones, however, recognize the importance of pure blood, so they work to protect the humans mostly as a food source, taking only as much as necessary to survive and fight. They're sort of the anti-heroes for the humans, and therefore disliked. They're often seen with younger vampires, apprentices, that they teach to take over for them. It's almost impossible to tell a "benevolent" vampire from a dark one.

Rules:
1. Everyone may have one to two characters. No more.
2. There are several classes to choose from, and can be any combination, providing you keep with rule #1. Male or female, it doesn't matter.
3. Werewolves and zombies, while they do exist in this RP, don't carry any sentient intelligence and only work with the darkness. I'm not saying you can't be with the darkness, but I doubt you'd want to be stuck as a mindless zombie the whole time, so they aren't playable. Sorry.
4. If you play a vampire with an apprentice, the apprentice counts as a second character.
5. You cannot have a super-powered witch/vampire combo. They all have weaknesses and they will be followed, or you can RP elsewhere.

So. Any questions...?

Sounds interesting. What kind of format do you want for the bios?

I'm interested aswell, but what would be the limit to too much power? Im interested in the warlock, so what kind of spells are of limits?

Limits... hmmm... Let's say, no army-slaying spells. Maybe they take out one to five foes per cast, and then you'd lose energy. For vampires, they'd lose strength over time from lack of blood. Humans just have to eat and sleep.

C&P this:

Name: Uh... yeah.
Class: Human, witch/warlock, vampire.
Age: Humans no more than 30, witches/warlocks up to 80, and vampires... whatever.
Gender: Warlocks are always male, witches always female, but otherwise it's up to you.
Specialty: If human, maybe you're good with tools or hunting. If a witch, maybe you're better at healing than slaying. If vampire, maybe you're smarter than the average nightcrawler. Put 'em here.
Appearence: This is optional. Basically what s/he looks like.
Personality: The way your character(s) behave and why, of course.

If you have two characters, you'll need two of these.

Name: Uther
Class: Warlock
Age: 80
Gender: Male
Specialty: Elemental Magics
Appearence: Uther is an old man. He has white hair and a small beard, but a some what muscular body. He wears torn up robes and sandals and always brings a small keg with alchohol in it.
Personality: He is your typical perverted old man. Uther has a goofy, layed back attitude. He takes everything as a joke and loves hitting on women, even though he knows he'll get the snot beaten out of him. Behind his extirior, Uther is a wise warlock with years of expirience. He has a wide array of spells that help out in any condition. When the time comes he will deliver, if the time hasn't come... well he'll be either drunk or trying to peep on some witches he finds.

I'm thinking about playing a vampire, but I have a couple questions.

1. How exactly do vampires age, physically speaking? Do they age like normal humans, do they appear as the age they were when they were first vampirised?

2. If the current year is about 2015, then when did all this "darkness" stuff start?

3. Did vampires and such exist before the "darkness" took over?

Kaizer: APPROVED.

Ookalf:
1. They age, but at a much slower rate than humans. Physically, a 60-year-old vampire would be the physical equivilant of a 6-year-old human.

2. Around 2008. It started with natural disasters, then a murderous "disease", then a horde of "demons" that were really semi-intelligent zombies. A young "bullet witch" named Alicia* tried to stop it, but ultimately failed. She's now more of a legend among the survivors.

3. Yes, but not in so many numbers. Nor were they so powerful.

(*Bullet Witch: A rare sub-class of witch. The first bullet witch, Alicia, was resurrected near the beginning of the whole thing. She has since then given rise to several more. Bullet witches are exemplified by their do-or-die attitudes as well as their "gunrods", or gun-like weapons that also act as their "rods", or brooms, in this case. These can shoot and must be reloaded just like normal guns, but are much larger and more powerful, and can take several forms. Bullet witches today aren't nearly as powerful as Alicia, who could summon meteor showers on a whim (and often did).)

So, do vampires occur naturally? Or are they humans that have somehow been converted?

A few have popped up out of seemingly nowhere, but for the most part they're converted humans. All of the vampires helping the humans are converted, with traces of their humanity still intact.

I was sort of thinking Seras Victoria from Hellsing could make a cameo appearance...

So, say we have a human-turned-vampire who looks to be somewhere in their thirties. About how old would they really be?

It depends on when he turned. In this RP, we'll say vampires age ten times slower than humans.

According to legend, vampires can last millions of years, but I don't feel like doing the math on that one.

If he turned while he was young, he could be 100-300 years. If it was more recent, it wouldn't be very long.

You're welcome.

This will, of course, be an open RP. Anyone can join at any time, so long as they post their character info here first.

So go crazeh.

Name: Elisabeth "Liz" Morris
Class: Vampire
Age: Physically in her twenties, Liz was vampirised at a young age many years ago.
Gender: Female
Specialty: Liz is skilled in various forms of hand-to-hand combat, and has trained herself to be competant with several types of weapons.
Appearence: I'm too lazy to describe it, but something like this.
Personality: Far kinder and gentler than usually expected from a vampire, Liz considers the personlity traits often associated with her kind to be unfair stereotypes. She loathes the idea of drinking human blood, prefering to dine on animals whenever possible. She is sometimes forced to drink from humans, but trie to take as little blood as possible when this happens.

Let me know if anything needs to be changed.

That's good. Not something one would expect from a vampire. Hooray for creativity!

Oh well, time for my pick of choice:

Name: Alicia
Class: Bullet Witch
Age: Uncertain. Roughly early 20's.
Gender: Female, duh.
Specialty: All sorts of destructive magics, such as meteor showers, tornadoes, and huge pillars of lightning. Her power has since diminished from grief. She holds the Gun Rod, a powerful gun with different forms that include a sniper, a machine gun, a shotgun, and a mini-gun. It also acts as her "wand".
Appearance: This one here. Only a bit thinner.
Personality: I'll keep it short and sweet: "Screw you." That's what she's likely to say. Or not say, as the case may be. She hasn't smiled in many years. It's unclear why she's helping the humans. Ask her a question and her immediate response is a confused look that screams, "What the hell do you want?" Ofttimes she seems distant, as if she's listening to a different voice entirely. She usually pauses before she speaks. Nobody quite knows why.

And yes, if you want to pick a dark creature from some sort of media, that's fine, just so long as they stay within the power parameters.
