MSF's Bowling League

Postby Mitera Nikkou » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:33 pm

I've been managing to bowl regularly these days (every Sunday, now), so I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone would like to keep a scorecard of their progress. Which is assuming that I won't be the only one doing this. So... Come on! Go bowling! :P (If you do, just post your scores and I'll edit them into this post.) For the record, I just started keeping track of the scores of every game the game before this one, so what I've accomplished below those is from, or includes, games I've played before them.

I have a list of my bowling scores that I took back when I was still in school. Just a matter of tracking it down, assuming I haven't thrown it away.

I currently hold a 167 (personal Best high score), giving me a 160 game badge and a 400 series badge from last year. I start my bowling league tommorrow (9/2/09). The new 14 week season begins for the Outsiders (my bowling team). We have the shirts and all of us earned badges.

I will keep you posted of my scores for tommorrow.

Awesome. I'll go ahead and add your name to the "Roster." What are the badges for?

I missed out on bowling last Sunday, so I'll try to bowl eight games this coming Sunday. XD

Badges are awarded by the USBC (United States Bowling Congress in my league for High game score and High game series (with hanidcap). You can even get a ring for a 300 game (perfect game, all Strikes), and picking up the rare 7-10 split.

I currently have a 400 series badge and a 160 game badge. I bowled a 167 last year and I had a high series of 400 to get my 400 series pin. I have had the 160 Game badge sewn to my Bowling shirt, and my 400 series pin is on the same shirt each week. I am now going to collect some more badges this year.

Too bad I can't join a league. Might be entertaining.

Fall Leagues are now starting in my area of Newark/Heath, OH. I bowl Wed. Nights at 6:30PM edt at Park Lanes (a local bowling alley. Sanction cards can be obtained at a nominal fee of $16.00 for males and $13.25 for female bowlers. My league charges $11.00 per night (not including shoe rental and concessions). I have my own ball and shoes...

Tonights scores for Kristin W. Rothacher (that's my real life name, I go by Kris around family and friends), week 1 (9/2/09)

Game 1: 100
Game 2: 116
Game 3: 90
Series thus far: 306 (exclude handicap)
Handicaps are not established in our league until at least 3rd week. We bowl for 15 weeks and then have a free bowl/no tap/potluck/awards banquet. Prize moneys, badges, and pins will be given out to all the bowlers who earned them.

We have 4 members per team, and it is co-ed. Each team appoints a team captain and he/she records the scores and they get turned in at the end of 3 games.

It'd probably be too expensive for me to be in a league... It only costs me five bucks for shoes and four games on Sunday afternoon. Too bad my sister's break from college is over, since she was finally about to break a hundred points. My goal is two-hundred, damn it! :O

So, what's with this series stuff? Does it mean anything, other than how many games you play in one visit? And what are the handicaps?

You bowl 3 games each visit, and the computer at the alley takes the average of pins that you knock down and the pins you leave standing, and figures that into your handicap. I think the www.bowl.com site has all your info, including a printable bowling card you can use at all bowling tournaments they have when you enter a sanctioned bowling tournament.

Well, I usually don't bowl that often, but, tonight I did. First off, let's just say I'm really inconsistent when it comes to bowling, so, don't be surprised when you see my second score. As for my highest score, it's pretty low. 129 to be exact. Here's how I did tonight.

Game 1: 122
Turkeys: 1
Game 2: 72
Game 3: 125
Game 4: 115

I have a habit of catching fire, late, too. On the first game, I had a 61 at the 7th frame, and doubled by the end. O.o
On the third, I had a 70 in the 7th frame. On the fourth, I had 64 in the 7th frame. So, yeah...there is no pattern to the madness that is the way I bowl. XD
Cause, I never got a strike until the 8th frame in any game. (second I had no strikes.) My turkeys came on the 9th frame and the first 2 throws in the 10th in the first game.

Anyways, I have no idea when I'll next go bowling. I just thought I would post this.

Yay~! Another bowler. ^^ *Adds your scores*

Bowl whenever you like, just so long as you have fun. (Though, for me, it's also exercise. <_<; )

Man, I can't wait until Sunday. I'm aiming for eight games, to make up for missing last Sunday, but I don't know if I'll last that long or not. XD

*Collapses*

Whew... I managed to do eight games.

And guess where a certain bowling ball was? Same lane. I swears, it's like the ball of destiny or some junk. O.o Although, in the second game, I wanted to see if I was ready to graduate to a twelve-pounder. I got a decent score for a new weight, but it was still more taxing than I'd like, so... I'll stick with the ten-pounder a bit longer.

I also raised my best score by one pin. XD I was disappointed, though, because I messed up on the last frame... I'm still working on my aim when it comes to pins left standing near the gutters. ;/ My mother bowed out after the sixth game, so I played the last two consecutively. My mother was in a hurry to do some errands so I had to rush them, and I ended up so tired by the last game that the ball was going everywhere. It was only by luck that I managed to get the score that I did. XD;;

But it's all good. I also managed to get another turkey. So did my mom. The funny thing is, my mother's only ever gotten two, and each time she has... so have I. Frame for frame, even. It's odd, and I'm wondering if it will happen a third time...

Week 2 (9/09/09) for Kris_Roth:

Game 1: 113
Game 2: 96
Game 3: 101

Series thus far: 310

My team swept the series with the team we were assigned to play against. Each win is 2 points each in our league, as is the loses count as 2 points each. We had 2 wins and 2 loses last week. so we were 4-4. Now with 8 points for the clean sweep, (including totals), we are 12-4.

Re: MSF's Bowling League

I did so-so this time. And since my mother chose the lane, the bowling ball magic faded. By the sound of the guy's response at the counter, it seemed like he was going to reserve it for someone he knew (unless asked) whenever they got in. (But we get there right when the place opens, so we're usually the first or second customers there.) Though I kept an eye on what lanes people were being sent to after us, and it looks like there was a high chance that we would have ended up where the ball was, again, if my mother hadn't asked for a specific one (the first lane).

But, that's okay. In the last game I decided on this thirteen-pounder (a green one I'm calling the "booger ball"), because it seemed like the ten-pounder had gotten too light and was too easy to throw off-center. I was hoping a heavier ball would pull my arm more towards the center when I release, and it worked pretty well (I got my highest score for that game, after all; as well as landing another turkey). So I've decided to officially graduate to this thirteen-pounder. I'll have to see if I end up at lanes where this ball is set, now. :D

I tried spinning the ball in the first game, but... I just don't get it. There was an actual professional bowler playing two lanes away, and I was watching him, but my eyes are too bad to see what he's actually doing with the ball as he moves. But I doubt I could do that. I'm still at the stage where I'm learning how to bowl straight, anyway. :P
