I didn't hear about this until just now, but my reaction was kind of like, "...What? Why?..." It's just sort of baffling. Are they trying to be "hip" or something? I'm just kind of, as I said, baffled.

We~ll. The reasoning I heard was that 'Syfy' was a word they could own and brand things with as they like and suuuch....but it still doesn't really...look good, to me.
Also, their catchphrase 'Imagine Greater' seems kinda silly too, while I'm at it, but maybe I am being overcritical
Far as I'm concerned, they hit their low point years ago. My primary deal is, "why did they choose a name that sounds like something out of a child's storybook"?

Good question. At the very least any self-respecting geek or nerd won't except it. Perhaps the channel's main audience are teenagers and young adults, so they're appealing to whatever's trendy in that age group. Like their lingo. *Shrugs*
