Charlie looked rather suprised, and perhaps a little unsettled at being told it would be hard to tell she'd ever been a boy as she got dressed, and blushed as the older girl bent down check her shoes, and then watched in the mirror as Mary Anne pulled out the pink ribbon and tied the bow on top of her head, making her think of how she now looked even younger than her memories of her sister.

Her hand reached out, grasping onto Mary Anne's after a moment's hesitation, her cheeks red at how much bigger Mary Anne's hand seemed than her own, and then nodded her head to show she was ready. "When will I get to see the Hierarch again?", she asked as she was led out of the bedroom. "Are you going to tell her about... our secret?".

The charging figure bolted to Surge almost unhindered by the shots...though after a few seconds, it took effect and the hybrid soldier fell head over heels unconcious. As it did, another dark figure fell from the rafters and the edge of the roof seemed to move. "Attack!" a loud yell sounded, and four distinct figures fell from the roof.

Julian easily pegged one but as he did, the other four dropped down, his view being blocked by the fences.

***

Chris' entourage stopped, "Elaborate, human." said the leader; her emotionless gas mask leading to no reaction.

***

Mary Anne smiled, "Of course I won't tell her. It's our little secret; you and me." she playfully tapped Charlie's nose as she said it. "As for seeing Hierarch...I don't know how I could arrange that. Most normal girls don't see the hierarch, let alone a boy. She demanded an audience with Chris, since he was a menace. If you wanted to see Hierarch again, you should try your best...if you prove yourself in the field or on the homefront, she may just want to see you again." Mary Anne took Charlie's hand in hers and escorted her out into the hall. "They're going to ask you some questions...answer them as truthfully as you think is necessary...don't seem too insubordinate, otherwise they'll force another dose of the pills into you." A few girls passed the two; some nodded in respect to Mary Anne while some covered their mouths to keep from laughing. It was a forced march the whole way for Charlie and finally they got to the door labeled REHABILITATION. Mary Anne knelt in front of Charlie; even while kneeling Mary Anne was the same height as the new twelve year old, "All right. This is where I have to go. Just do what you think is right and I'll see you tomorrow." she leaned over and kissed Charlie on the forehead, "You'll do great." she hugged Charlie last before standing up, wiping her eye a little, and leaving to other duties.

"But you said she did this to protect me, as letting them know I wasn't Chris would make them kill me... I think she might have liked me... ", she murmured, but trailed off in frustration as the amount of girls in the corridors grew to a level that made it impossible to continue the conversation, or even get another answer from Mary Anne on the matter. Se was quite worried by how anxious she suddenly felt. Apart from Mary Anne, the Hierarch, the leader of the girls, the leader of the enemy, had been the only other friendly face she'd come into contact with since capture, and the thought of not seeing her again for months didn't feel good...

She started getting worried for a different reasons as Mary Anne explained some of the things that would happen during rehabilitation, and she looked up nervously at the sigh on the door as they came to a stop infront of it, the sound of snickering girls still ringing in her ears. Then came another worrying thought, as she caught herself looking forward to the more casual and simple dresses, which didn't sound so bad compared to this frilly monstrosity that even other girls obviously found embarrassing.

She turned to look into the eyes of the teenager as she knelt down, returning the hug, blushing at the kiss to the forehead, and then watched her leave in silence, letting out a little sigh when she was out of sight. Drawing a deep breath, she turned the handle of the door, and stepped inside...

The door led to a small waiting room. There were three large chairs with signs that said "Officers Only". In the corner, there was a small, round table with small child-sized chairs around with a sign on the table that said "Rehabilitees". The only other door lay across the room next to the large square hole in the wall that led to the secretarial desks. There was no one in the waiting room besides Charlie. The waiting room music, though quiet, was distinctly nursery rhyme songs mixed with catchy pop by Spice Girls or S Club 7 or other girl bands.

She stood in the door way for a moment, peeking into the room, taking it all in, and even wrinkling her nose at the music before she stepped in, quietly closing the door behind her, the frilly petticoats beneath the dress tickling her thighs with each step. There was a heavy feeling in her tummy, worrying about being forced more pills and eventually losing her memory if she didn't convince them she was already being given them.

A hand rubs the back of her neck as she wandered close to the large chairs, frowning at them before turning to the small table and chairs with the sign upon it. She looked over through the square hole, staring at the desks and shook her head, muttering, "Stupid girls pretending they're grown ups... ", although in the voice of a twelve year old girl, it came out sounding more bitter rather than the mocking tone intended.

She may have looked like a girl, but there were still signs of her past life, or perhaps even that could pass for a girl's immaturity, but there was no ladylike closing of her legs as she sat herself down on one of the small chairs, and waited. Blue eyes stared down at her skinny arms, and she kept squirming and pulling on the skirt, but no matter which way she sat, the lace kept tickling her skin.

Julian curses, then speaks into the headset. "Get clear of the damned fence! I cant cover you till you do!"
O Muse!
Sing in me, and through me tell the story
Of that man skilled in all the ways of contending,
A wanderer, harried for years on end...

" Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" exclaimed Surge as he ran towards the escape, shotting back at the figures as they fell. This was no place to get surrounded.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

Dan started heaving Greg's heavy form from the battle scene, struggling with her pistol to shoot the falling forms. Greg did all he could to speed the process along but what he didn't let on was that the hybrid on top of him had gotten a good slash into his gut. A red haze filled his eyes and his inhibitions and cautious nature wasn't holding up so well. He lifted his own gun one handed to fire on the charging animals. One hybrid fell instantly to Dan and Greg's firing as the other three charged at Surge. One leapt into the air to knock Surge to the ground. From Greg's radio, a loud yell of "Get clear of the damned fence! I can't cover you till you do!" did more things than one. For one, the boys knew their sniper was gone, for the other part, the girls knew now there were more. The girls in the shower that were about to surround the boys were now withdrawing to counter the outside boy defenders.

Julian would hear several gun shots from behind the fences, gouts of light would brighten the roof's edge with each blast.

***

Chris was rewarded with his plan with another punch to the jaw, "That's stupid...there aren't many of us hybrids independent of the girls. A full seige would be inefficient. There's only one of you and you're already caught. You might make a good sparring partner...you might make a good chew-toy."

***

The door opened and from it walked a focused looking girl. She wore pretty casual clothes: her capris khakis with striped t-shirt seemed almost remeniscent of before the war. She had a clipboard in front of her and she nibbled on her pen as she looked over her new file. "All right..." she said offhandedly, "Chris? We''ll have you back now." she looked up from her focus to see a frilly dressed twelve-year old sitting in a comcially small chair. A small laugh attempted to escape the girl's mouth, "Well you dressed up nice for today. You look very pretty." she said rather professionally. "Come along back." she opened the door wider and offered her hand to the girl. The secretary opened the door wider with her other hand opening the way to what looked like a doctor's exam table.

Julian watches anxiously through the scope of his rifle... waiting and hoping they would escape soon.

A flicker of doubt crosses his mind... what would he do if they didnt make it? He couldnt storm the place single-handedly...

Charlie looked up as the door opened, and almost immediately, she was jealous of how simple the girl's clothes looked, and at the same time, cursing herself for being jealous over girl's clothing, no matter what it was. For a very brief moment, there was a look of suprise on the twelve year old's face, but then she nodded, and made a mental note about asking Mary Anne if something could be done about the name situation.

She went a very bright red as she heard the laughter the older girl was trying to hold back upon seeing her dress, but she was very aware of Mary Anne's warning that they'd give her more drugs if they thought it necessary, and there would be no way to avoid them here. "Thank you... ", she forced the reply, trying to keep her voice calm, trying to hide the frustration she was feeling inside as she looked up at the other girl. Hesitantly, she takes the hand that was offered, and followed her inside, but she couldn't hide the panic when she saw what seemed to be an exam table. "What's going to happen here?", she asked. Charlie had never been shy about his body before. He'd regularly shower naked with the other guys back at the boy's base, but -this- body brought a deep sense of embarrassment with it, and the last thing she wanted was people making her even more aware of what she'd become by poking and prodding.

One of the locked down doors facing Julian began to hum open. The metallic plate opening, revealing the covered door. Once the metallic cover was removed into the wall the door open and immediately bullets began flying out randomly at Julian's position.

***

As they approached the exam table, the secretary placed her hands in Charlie's armpits and lifted her up to it. "Upsie daisy." she says cutely as she places Charlie flat on the table. The clean paper beneath her began to crinkle annoyingly like EVERY doctor's exam. "The doctor will be in shortly. She'll ask you a few questions and do some little tests, you know stethoscope, temperature, etcetera." she immediately left, leaving Charlie once again in silence. The exam room was larger than most clinic rooms Charlie had been in prior to the war. There were monitors on the wall and some unrecognizable instruments lay on the opposite desk.

Julian ducks down, getting behind the tree. He edges his rifle out around the trunk, exposing as little as possible... then waits for a shot.

Surge fell and quickly reached for his pistol and atatcked the hybrid, only managing 3 shots, before the cliped was empty. He threw the gun away since he didnt have any more magazines for it. He took out his last weapon the rifle and got up trying to provide the best covering fire he could as he went towards the fence. "RUN!!!"
