Julian grimly does what he can, focusing on sewing Greg up with the time he has. He barely finishes before he wakes. He waits till he gets the screaming out of his system.

"You were a mess... here." He holds Greg down and applies a local anesthetic to his patchwork stomach.

"I still have to splint your leg, so try not to die."

Greg wasn't coughing blood now as he writhed in agony. His groans remained stifled by his self-control and he only nodded to Julian's request, holding as still as possible for Julian to apply the splint.

Mary Anne nodded to Charly's story, "Hmm..." she said in thought, "That's not as much what I meant. I want to know who Charlie was before the war. What kind of person you were before all..." she gestured around her, "...this happened."

She picks nuggets from her plate, having to bite pieces from them, rather than eat them all in one go like she used to, as these seemed a lot bigger than normal chicken nuggets after dropping five years and dropping out at the wrong end of the teens. Her eyes met Mary Anne's gaze as she licked her fingers, and she shrugged her shoulders. "I liked basketball a lot. My gym teacher at school said I could probably make it as a pro. I was popular, and had a cheerleader as a girlfriend... life was pretty much perfect until all this happened... ". Just talking about basketball seemed embarrassing now, as she was so small, and thinking of Crystal made her blush as she pictured her former girlfriend towering above her.

"I maybe should have treated her better.... ", she mumbled after a moment or two of silence. "I didn't treat her bad, but since she left, I've thought about it a lot. I just wanted her to look good, and asked her to wear short dresses and skimpy clothes... and... I probably teased my little sister too much too. I didn't mean to make her run away, I was just messing with her, but then they both left. I've been looking for them, to say sorry... ". A small frown had creased her forehead as she chewed on a chicken nugget, and she lowered her head, "I miss them".

Mary Anne reached one arm around Charlotte's shoulders and held her for a moment, "I know. I miss my brothers." she stared into the middle distance, "They both took to the draft, thinking it would be a lot of fun...but..." she lost herself further in nostalgia, "One day, about a year and half ago, I was overseeing the casualties in my previous position. Mark was there. Barely alive, one of the last victims of the Mark 7 tech suits, his body was practically crushed and infected with our unrefined Zeta rays...he was doomed to die a mentally chaotic, physically broken boy. After pleading to our original hierarch that something be done to save him...she confirmed a project to perhaps..." a loud shuffling interrupted her story as all the girls around them stood up and saluted; to what, they couldn't tell until they saw to the main doors. The hierarch had arrived. She was dressed in a simple black top with a flared, poofy skirt...quite a downgrade from her flashy costume orignally. She still wore a mask, only this time it was one of beautiful anger, twisted eyebrows gave a perpetual glare from the plastic cover. "Girls!" her honeyed voice carried throughout the large room, "We have...a problem." the room stood silent, tension rising. "Charlotte, will you please stand up?"

Charlotte's small hands gently rubbed at Mary Anne's thigh as she told the story about one of her brothers. Perhaps if done by a boy, it would have felt differently, but it came across as a little girl's attempts to comfort. Nobody back at the boy's base ever spoke about their families, so it was yet another thing to add to the list of improvements in the girl's base. She didn't want the list to exist at all, but it was growing at a worrying pace. Questions started to form in her head. She wanted to ask about the tech suits, and she wanted to ask about the project and what became of Mary Anne's brother, when the movement stirred all around them.

Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the beautiful figure standing there in the black top and skirt. It was like an explosion of emotions inside her. The Hierarch was so beautiful, as well as the only other girl Charly felt truly comfortable around at the moment, but on the other hand, she was also powerful, the leader of Charlotte's enemies for two long years. At the sound of her new name on the Hierarch's lips, she felt her muscles start to stiffen in panic. Her blue eyes widened at the request, and rather than climb down from her seat, she pulled her knees up, accidentally showing anyone that was watching her white cotton panties as the dress flicked up, setting her feet on the edge of the seat, and then climbed up to stand on top of it. Her stomach churned, and her knees felt so weak she thought she might fall, her attention one hundred percent on the Hierarch.

"Yes, Miss?", came her nervous voice. She didn't even know how much of that was her acting to fool the girls. The Hierarch had already been impressive enough when Charly had met her in the body of a sixteen year old body, but now, seeing her for the first time through the eyes of an eleven year old girl, she seemed even more awe-inspiring. She didn't even consider that could be the two doses of drugs affecting her thoughts. Her hands had lowered to the hem of her dress, fingers curled around the edge of it, lightly pulling as she stood atop the chair, with most likely every girl in the room staring right at her.

Julian quickly does so, pulling it tight. Once he finishes. "You know, picking up a magical statue that could sew you up would probably have been a better choice. Remember that if you ever head back." He smiles a bit, trying to lighten the mood.

Brnin8r wrote:Dan was struggling against her inner-girl to cry openly at the pain. Tears were slowly dripping from her eyes reflecting her struggle. "I'll...*wince*...be fine." She looked up to Surge in the night air, a sort of vulnerability in her eyes for half a second, "...thank you Surg-... Sir." she pressed her confusion out the window and began to walk back to the base.

Surge nodded and patted Dan's shoulder. "Come on Soldier, you earned your rest today" replied Surge as he took the lead and walked back to Greg's being very mindful of his surroundings.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

Greg laughed a little, sounding as if he was feeling better. The mood did indeed lighten, "I'll put that on my list of things to do." Julian could tell that Greg was far more tired than he let on, his eyes screamed it. It was as if he hadn't slept in days and now almost on the brink of death, his confident air had dwindled into nothing. "We should be safe...I doubt the girls'll find us. Once we get a good night's sleep...and we deserve it...we'll talk about plans for tomorrow." he explained weakly.

Dan nodded and with Surge leading, the two returned safely to Greg's hideaway, only to find Greg lying on the ground speaking with Julian.

***

Chris' hit would disrupt her tackle, but her weight on its own easily toppled the two. She maintained her dominance straddling above the boy, her furry hands reaching to pin his wrists.

***

The room, dead silent, seemed to gaze soley on the small girl on her chair. "Can everyone see this girl?" the hierarch's tense voice asked. No one replied. Their sovereign continued, "To some this girl was once known as Chris. But as of today, she is Charlotte. She has always been one of us as far as any of you are concerned. Unless you want to risk your career as one of our fellow, respected scientists did this morning, you will not approach this girl in hostility. She is our sister." the room stood silent for a moment before the hierarch nodded and left without a goodbye. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife, but despite that, all the girls turned away and began eating their lunch. Mary Anne had a look on her face that expressed a mixture of emotions at the public announcement, but holding her tongue at the moment, she also sat down, "Finish your food and we'll be off to your next training class."

Charlotte was shaking, her knees trembling just below the hem of her blue dress as the Hierarch spoke to them all. Her blue eyes did glance a little to each side, to the faces of the other girls that were watching her as she stood upon the chair. She felt a swelling inside her chest at the sound of the Hierarch standing up for her, and her admiration for the girl grew even more, and she made a promise to herself that she would not let the Hierarch down. However, at the same time, she could imagine how some of the girls would be feeling about this, especially the ones that had lost family members and friends to Chris. She wondered too, where the girl that now had her body was during all of this.

She watched silently as the Hierarch turned with a swish of her poofy skirt and departed, and for a moment, just stood there, unable to move her legs, before lowering herself back down on the seat beside Mary Anne, looking a little pale. Her eyes met the teenage maid's gaze for a moment, and she found herself obeying, reaching for another nugget and nibbling away at it with a thoughtful expression on her face, "Can we talk later?", she asked between mouthfuls.

Surge pokes Julians back. "I hope by idiots you mean some other people. Right, soldier?" he asks with a firm face.

Greg laughed, "You know it's pretty comfortable down here if I do say so myself?" Dan just smiled that everything had ended up ok. No one had been captured or hurt.

***

Despite Chris' attempts, the fox girl expertly pinned his arms and legs down eventually. With him completely immobilized, she leaned over and gently kissed his cheek. Afterwards immediately hopping off of him. "Good job. I like you already. Tour the burrow before you begin your training and initiation." she casually ordered as she moved to sit on her bone throne. She breathed heavily as the adrenaline subsided.

***

Mary Anne would look tensely around the room, eyeing the other girls that would occasionally glance to the table; some in wonderment and others in contempt, but despite their reason, they complied with the Maid's terse, silent order. "Yes, of course Dear. We'll talk as much as you want after your second training class. Until then though...try to be confident." she stood up, "Unfortunately as part of your second training, I cannot lead you there. Your next training class is in room W216...you'll need to navigate there yourself. I will see you as soon as its over." she promised as she took her tray and Charlotte's to put them away.

Charlotte finished her nuggets, wiping her fingers in her blue dress, as she'd always been used to wiping her hands on her clothing, but as soon as she'd done it, she regretted it, as now there was a greasy smudge on the light blue cotton. For a moment, she stared down at it, and could feel herself getting upset, which she knew was a worrying sign. Quickly, she reaches for a napkin, using it to clean her fingers and her mouth, and then tries to wipe the spot on her dress with another, but unfortunately it was one that would remained until washed.

Climbing down onto her feet, she tried to hide the mark from Mary Anne by turning her body so it was on the other side, placing the napkins into the waste bins and nodded up at the teenage girl, "See you later, Mary Anne", she said, still seeming a little nervous as she turned and weaved her way back through the tables, and out of the cafeteria doors, back into the halls where she drew a deep breath and looked in both directions, "W216... ", she murmured, looking for signs or even a map.
