"were?" asks Kyu

"No, thank you sweetie, I've pestered you enough" replies the old lady.

The house seemed pretty normal and new to boot. It was a tad dirty as the girls still havent invested time in cleaning though.

At the track the kids are on the floor waiting, some even feel asleep. The teacher is STILL fighting with his wife and half the time of the class has been wasted.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

Apparently, he doesn't notice Tabatha's gawking.

"Wheee~! <3" Sally giggles as she's hefted onto Ray's shoulders.
"Nah, I think we're good. ^^"
"Ditto, nya."
"Onward, Ray! x3" Sally points forward and hugs Ray from behind, nestling in on his shoulders.

"All right, Sally! Here we go!" Ray walks forward, making sure to put some bounce in his step for the little girl on his shoulders. "So, where would you like me to start? I take it you two are going to want to know everything there is about this place. I'll admit, I don't know everything, but I'll do my best to answer your questions."

"You've been anything but a bother, Ma'am." Naru smiles and hands the old lady the receipt before going over to unlock the case with the ring in it.

Sally closes her eyes in bliss as she holds on. She feels a small breeze waft through her shoulder-length blonde hair. "Mmm...warm." She mumbled faintly.
"Hmmm...start with the Plaza, nya." Tabatha says, swishing her tail idly as she walked. "I sensed something in the pillar before i touched it. The energy wasn't positive or negative. Just...indifferent, nya."
"Yeah, I got changed into a girl after being bitten by some kind of bug. It was mosquito-like with a colored pattern on it's abdomen." Julia told Ray. "Whereas Tabs and Sally changed with no apparent trigger."

Harriette sighs and sits down. "This is ridiculous..." She says, a bit above a mutter.

"Well, for starters, the mosquito was just a mosquito. Simple coincidence that your change went off when it bit you." He watches Tabatha's tail swish. "The Plaza does have magic, mostly to pull beings from other worlds to this one. You might have heard this is a kind of lifeboat for worlds that have ended. Those pillars are the magnets that pull creatures from those worlds. But the process isn't exactly the most gentle of things. Your body and soul has to cross a couple of dimensions, and who knows how many light years to get here, and it all happens in an instant. The changes you went through..." He stops for a moment and frowns in thought. "Well, it was explained to me like jet lag. Your body and soul are in a lot of upheaval from the transfer. The changes are a combination of you and this universe trying to get you back to being stable again. If you didn't change, you'd probably explode into a giant cloud of skittles or something crazy like that. But it wouldn't be pretty."

Tabatha notices Ray watching her tail. She stops swishing and blushes for a bit before saying, "Wow...th-that explains the quantum shifts the Reader registered, nya." She shuddered at idea of being turned into a mass of Skittles, and for a second she was actually thankful to be changed into a catgirl instead.
"And the pillars are like magnets? Hmm..." Julia pondered. "The last thing Tabatha and I remembered before coming here was that we were investigating some kind of vortex in the basement of an abandoned building. The landowner hired us to go check it out. We were told a legend that says that once every midnight on a full moon, the vortex opens and people get sucked in never to be seen again. We took that into consideration before going there, but the pay was hard to resist. The recession brought us into a tight-spot and we needed the money..." She looked down at the ground after saying this. "I'm thinking the pillar might be a likely culprit for the cause of the vortex back home." Julia heaved a sigh. "Tabatha told me that Greg had a theory about being able to go back to our world after they found me and explored for a bit. However that was all lost when Greg became Sally... But if that landowner could see us now, he'd be shocked by the information we've gathered...and probably have a good chuckle for us losing our manhood."

"Well, I hope for your sakes that it was that portal that brought you here. I wouldn't put it past the pillars to have sucked you from wherever it is the portal intended. But there's only one other reason why you would have come here." Ray's cheerful attitude gets a little more somber. "And that would be if your world ended. I'm not talking like some nuclear apocalypse either. If it's gone, it just doesn't exist any more."

They continue walking. Sally's really comfortable and relaxed now. She starts to fall asleep on Ray's shoulders.
"Yeah, Karen told me about that last part." Julia says solemnly. "But she didn't tell me that a world can just disappear like that. I hope it was the portal as well."
"Yeah, me too, nya..." Tabatha looks up as she continues to walk and sees the sun is starting to set. Beautiful oranges and reds fill the sky. She also sees the moon, albeit a bit faintly. It appears to be in the waxing crescent phase.

From behind the moon, there is another waxing crescent shape that slowly peeks out from behind it. A second moon, much smaller, and in orbit around the other. "It happened to my world. And I hope it hasn't happened to yours." Ray clears his throat. "But the upshot of having people from so many different worlds is there are all kinds of weird sciences and magics floating around. You just have to find the right people, since it's kinda rare. Best place to look is in Nexus University though. They have magic classes for people who know or can learn, and their staff all know how to use it. They may have something to help you with your new forms."

As they walk, they come across a townhouse nestled in with a bunch of others. Ray stops in front of it, motioning to a sign in front that reads "VACANT: NEW RESIDENT HOUSING". "Looks like we're here."

Naru hands the old lady a plain but nice looking box with the gold ring in it. "Well, thank you for stopping bye! Your son is a very lucky person to have you as a mother."

"Two moons? That's cool! ^^" Julia says as they arrive.
"Yeah, I saw...has a surreal look to it, nya."
"Well, I know where I'm going tomorrow, how about you sis?" She says after hearing about the University.
"Oh yeah." Tabatha nods. "But for now, let's just get settled, nya."
The girls follow Ray to the doorstep of the vacant house.

Ray reaches down to fiddle with the sign. It changes wording. "OCCUPIED: ____ FAMILY". He points to a little touch pad on the back. "You can put the name here later, but I think getting someone into a bed is a little more important right now." Ray looks up to the sleepy girl on his shoulders. He chuckles to himself, then opens the door. "After you..."

The townhouse follows a pretty standard format. The ground floor has a small foyer with a cozy little sitting room at the front window. Farther back is a living room connected to a combination kitchen and dining room. The living room has a wide window and a back door leading to a grassy, fenced in yard. The coat closet in the foyer is topped by the stairs, leading up to four small bedrooms and a large bath. The house is fully furnished, and has some canned food items in the pantry of the kitchen. However, the walls are bare, without even curtains on the windows. Luckily, there are some linens for the beds.
