Silence invited Surge's question, though an unquestionable sense of dread settled on him.

Greg leads Julian through the building headquarters of the boys quickly up stairs to what seemed to be a previous supervisors office of the business that had inhabited the warehouse prior. Not even knocking, Greg opened the door and waltzed right in. A boy of maybe eighteen or nineteen rifled through paperwork, seeming to have gotten it all finally organized, only to jump in surprise sending it all to the floor again. He groaned, "You guys need to KNOCK first before you come--.." his sentence stopped mid-sentence as he saw who had entered, "You..." the now wistful voice spoke quietly. A long moment of awkward silence passed before the boy regained his composure, "I'm surprised you're willing to show your face around these parts again...traitor."
Greg made no motion to react as he grabbed the chair in front of the desk swung it around and sat on it backwards, draping his arms over the back, "Call me what you want, be happy I don't hold grudges as deeply as I used to." the blatant threat diminished the boys bravado and it was obvious who was in charge in the room at the time. "I'm only here because we've managed to procure something that, if you guys don't mess it up like you have EVERYTHING else, could end this war in a month." The boy made no eye contact with the twenty-year old and turned his attention to Julian, "And do you support this traitor?"

The helicopter, despite its awesomeness, was outfitted for recon. It's geared up with light equipment and it looks fast. The one auxilliary weapon in the back was a rocket-propelled EMP to deactivate anything electronic...such as an enemy helicopter. Soon after, it was finished being fueled and other boys began to get into the bird.

***

The mech does not pursue, but easily trains its cannon on Chris, reminding him that she had her sights on him.

***

Mary Anne shrugged, "My first position was an artillery trooper. One who specializes in mortars, rockets, and flak cannons. With us clear at the back of the conflict, we could dress in less practical uniforms, showing how we could still be dressed in frilly dresses on the battlefield. That was the uniform for that position."
It's not about how much dough you make -- it's about how delicious a pizza you eat at the end.

After examining the helicopter, Mike climbed into it and took an empty passenger seat. I'm not going to lie, but this friggin' sweet! Mike thought. His excitement soon faded into nervousness as the whirly-bird takes off, but he does his best not to show it.

Tiredness seemed to be catching up to the eleven year old as she climbed back onto the bed, and crawled between the two teenagers. At first, she settled on her knees, listening to Mary Anne explain her pervious role, before she settled down, laying alongside the maid, and reached her arms around Mary Anne, "I'm glad you're away from that now, and you're safe in here with the Hierarch.. ", she said shortly before a yawn escaped her lips. That caused her cheeks to flush red, and she curled a hand up to rub at her eyes. Her head had ended up resting against Mary Anne's chest, and yet, there didn't seem to be anything wrong about that. "Will you stay with us, Miss?", she asked as her eyelids began to get heavier.

After some time of thinking to himself, Surge stands up and heads outside his room around the base, to pass the time. He didn't know how much time he had until battle called for him again.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

(My most sincere apologies guys. I have sorely abandoned you and the story must go on!!)

Surge's trepidation went unnoticed by the base as they all continued to fortify, maintain, or defend the base. Though he could notice a considerable crowd growing up and at the bottom of the stairs to the highest-ranking officer. From his position Surge could tell that Greg was in there.

As Julian didn't answer, the officer had his answer, "I see. Well in any other situation I'd have the both of you court-martialed and if you were lucky you'd be put on the frontli--" the boys sentence went unfinished as Greg quickly reached over and clocked the boy across the jaw, instantly putting the younger boy to his knees, "Don't give me any of that jargon bullshit, you overconfident prick!" as he yelled, it echoed through the base and a wave of ooohs and aaahs came from the crowd watching the older man berating their superior officer; though they took no action against it. "You hear about a way out and you start mouthing off to me about protocol?!" he shoved the desk to the side which made a loud scraping noise across the wooden floor, causing the crowd to shrink back, "I wrote the damn book on this war of yours!" the boy had staggered to sit up and he held his pained jaw, tears sat tentatively in his eyelids, trying desperately to not fall down the boys cheek. Eventually the boy nodded, "What's this discovery of yours?" as he asked the question, the bright sun ceased to shine in through the window as clouds sprouted from no where, overcasting the sky.

As the helicopter took off, Mike saw the base bustling with activity. Soon though they were out of sight and the recon mission was about to begin, "All right Greenie, it'll be your job to use these binoculars," with that, the pilot reached down and tossed a large set of binoculars to the boy...they looked huge, "And report to the copilot anything unusual. Got that?" as he finished speaking, Mike might notice the sky, turning from its bright cloudless state, to nearly overcast in seconds.

***

As Chris pondered, the sky above him was soon covered in clouds and soon after that, the clouds had turned a dark grey to black. Rolling piles of thunder and lightning began to clash against itself in the sky. After the light show continued for a moment, a large object seemed to be screaming toward the base and with a loud BLAM crashed into the earth just outside the boundaries of the girl's base.

***

As Charlotte was nearly drifting, the Hierarch smiled, "Of course. I'll stay until this is over." she said softly as she reached over to stroke the young girl's cheek. At that moment, Mary Anne also reached over and stroked the girl's side, soothing her to sleep. On the razorblade's edge of unconciousness a loud, thundering noise echoed and shook the base, causing both hands to retract from the girl. Instantly the Hierarch was stood up and pacing around the room with a walkie-talkie that seemed to come out of nowhere, "I need a report Giselle, tell me what that was." she asked, worried that Chris had whipped out something they weren't expecting...maybe the mech exploded. The Hierarch's face blanched at the thought.

"Ma'am, I know about as much as you do...but cameras show that there is a massive crater with an unknown object at the bottom."

((Apology accepted, life happens :P ))

Mike catches the unusually large pair of binoculars. "Alright, you got it...huh?" That last word came as he saw the ground below him quickly darken. He looks up at the sky, holding the binoculars in his hands but not looking through them. The skies were a dark gray with overcast. "Okay, does the weather count as unusual?" He calls out to the co-pilot while looking at him. Mike then turns his attention to looking through the binoculars at the ground below him, seeing if he can make out anything else unusual despite his now somewhat darkened surroundings.

Charlotte was almost asleep when the loud noise rumbled through her room, and the gentle hands slipped away. She sat up, her eyelids heavy as she forced her eyes open to peer around in confusion. Lifting her hands from beside herself, she curled them up and rubbed at her eyes, squinting at Mary Anne, and then across to where the Hierarch was pacing back and forth with the walkie-talkie. She crawled across the bed, looking down at her short denim dress, and bit her lip as she listened to the conversation before hesitantly approaching the Hierarch and reaching out to tug on her night dress, "If there's trouble... I want to help... ", she said in a timid voice, looking worried.

Rachel hopped into the passenger seat and sighed, "I'm feeling under the weather." She quickly buckled her seatbelt and got comfortable.

(I am back, but I still don't know how often I will be able to post.)

*After buckling her seat belt, Alana started the engine on the jeep and headed back to base.*

"Are you going to be okay Rachel-Chan?" Alana asked worriedly.

The pilot shrugged to Mike's question, "Things like this happen here and there. Just keep your eyes on the ground and see if there is any activity from hostile girls." he said quickly. Despite the ominous cloud cover, there wasn't anything immediately that caught Mike's eyes, with or without the binoculars. A low rumble of thunder and lightning had started to happen in the sky.

***

As Chris approached, there was a massive crater with a single tube-shaped object at the very bottom. The front of the tube glowed a bright green and the colors within seemed to swirl around. From no where it seemed, five black-armored figures poured from the tube, they each had odd-looking guns. Their heads were covered in different looking lenses all glowing a bright red, giving them the appearance of a spider. With no notice to the boy, they began to march toward the girl's base. After a few seconds, another five had come from the tube.

***

Mary Anne looked to Charlotte with a grim look on her face, "If its a new threat, you may have to." she said somberly. The Hierarch continued to pace and from the radio they all heard a frantic voice, "Wait a minute...it looks like there are...people coming from the object!! But they don't look like--" the radio was consumed in static and the Hierarch's face, for the first time, looked frightened.

***

Rachel nodded, "I'm fine...I just feel kind of nauseous..." she said as she breathed short breaths. A loud howl echoed across the forest...perhaps the hybrids had noticed them or perhaps they were calling off their search.

"We better get back to base and fast." Alana said. "We need to get you to the infirmary as soon as we can."

"You got it." Mike replies. Seeing nothing interesting, he focuses at the various places below ground, trying to spot any enemy movement. He then checks the binoculars to see if they have zoom-lens or something he can make the binoculars do to look closer to the ground.
