Right now, the crowd-chatter causes him to notice for the first time his more sensitive hearing..he has a little less trouble than usual focusing in on single conversations that sound like they might contain helpful or interesting information.
((Intending for him to ask Mira the mentioned question, but it's alright if it doesn't work out that way.))

"Ack!" He manages to block a dropped book or two from smacking him in the face..mostly by using the book he was 'reading' as a shield. Then he makes the most polite response he can manage to the situation: He leans back and says, "Uh, are you all right miss?" before tacitly offering to help her back onto her feet and off his lap.
