Looking for Sir Dact!

Postby Hooded Monk » Sun Jun 26, 2011 8:24 pm

A mysterious hooded monk waits inside a nearby abandoned church. He waits hoping for a certain knight to appear...

Earlier that day a flier has circulated through town, seeking to draw the attentions of a certain chevalier known to frequent the area and known to fight with a spear. The advertisement has been sponsored by an unknown sacred order. Those who look up this mysterious group, the Brotherhood of St Expeditus, will come to dead end.

Dact, inherently drawn to mysteriousness, wanders inside the abandoned church! He had spent the day out in the woods, but spotted a flyer when he went into town to brows the weapon shops!

"Hmm..."
O Muse!
Sing in me, and through me tell the story
Of that man skilled in all the ways of contending,
A wanderer, harried for years on end...

"Peace be with you, sir knight. Are you the one that the locals refer to as Sir Dactyl?"

Dact looks over at the hooded monk, nodding. "Dactylos is my name, yes... How can I help you?"

"At long last, we meet!" exclaims the monk. "I am Brother Isidore of the Holy Order of Expeditus. Although our monastery is a great distance off from this city, tales of your heroic exploits have reached our humble abbey. I have journeyed far in the hopes of meeting with you, Sir Dactylos, for our Abbot sincerely believes that you might be chosen by the gods for a very special destiny."

Dact raises an eyebrow. "The gods tend to play cryptic games with the lives of mortals, and not all of them are in favor of fair rules. But I'm willing to come and hear your Abbot out, if thats what you want."

"Fear not, Sir Dactylos. Our order does not follow tricksters like some of the other religious orders in the city. Isn't it true that some cult unleashed a giant beast upon the city? Irregardless, our abbot awaits you in the nearby forest. There are many who would seek the secrets of our order, therefore we sometimes must operate in secrecy. I hope you understand."

The monk hands the knight a slip of paper.

"Follow that map and you will find our leader."
Hooded Monk

Dact nods, taking the paper. "Alright... this should be interesting. Thank you..." He nods at the monk, then goes to follow the map!

By following the careful instructions on the map, Sir Dactylos will embark on a trail that weaves throughout the greater part of the city. Eventually, after a hilarious set of adventures involving cryptic clues, treacherous traps, close calls with cunning foes, and other things the narrator fees to lazy to write about, he will find himself in the middle of a clearing in the local national park. Awaiting the hero is a man dressed in scarlet red robes.

"You have journey far, Sir Knight" says the man approaching Dact. "Your patience and valor will soon be rewarded. Do you know why you have been sent here, Sir Dactylos?"
Enigmatic Abbot

After a series of interesting adventures, Dact eventually meets face to cowl with... assumedly the Abbot! He smiles a bit at the 'you have journeyed far' part and shrugs slightly. "No, I cant say. Why have I been sent here, mysterious one?"

The abbot chuckles at being called the 'mysterious one' before continuing.

"Ahem. You have been brought here in order to see if you are worthy of wielding our sacred relic, the holy spear Glumzamber. For centuries, our holy order has guarded the spear from countless thieves, awaiting the day and the hour when one of perfect worth would arrive to claim it."

There is a glint of light that reflects from the abbot's right eye.

"I have heard countless tales of your heroic exploits Sir Dactylos. I strongly believe that it is you who is worthy of wielding the power of the spear."
Enigmatic Abbot

"Normally one would have to demonstrate his combat prowess in a series of stringent trials lasting up to at least ten years, yet for you, my order has considered a more interesting challenge, worthy of someone of your skill. Are you ready to proceed, Sir Knight?"
Enigmatic Abbot

Dact will feel a sharp pain in the back of his neck as a poisonous dart embeds itself in its neck, surgically piercing a narrow opening in his armor. As the venom quickly spreads through his bloodstream, he will find himself growing extremely drowsy...

"You're first task, sir knight, is to quietly pass into unconsciousness, allowing my minions to transport you to my lair without trouble" says the Abbot. "Sweet dreams, silly knight."
Enigmatic Abbot
