"You're done!" the doctor said happily, "It took a while but the operation was a success. You're Jaina now." Jaina would find this to be true, wrapped in gauze, she couldn't see but she could definitely notice the change through touch.

"The girls who brought this...mess," she said looking around the communications cords, "Were either in a rush or never had much discipline when it came to delivering goods. Could you start by untangling that rat nest of wires and find me the red input. We've got to get our cameras up and running if we want to sleep safer." her fingers began typing, bringing up several maps on her monitor, "It'll be just a moment before I can print off the proper map. So how'd you manage your rank, Sergeant?" her attempt at small talk seeming a little forced.

Alyse nodded to Julie once more before gripping Alex's hand and tugging him out the door and closing it behind her. "Remember what I told you and stay behind me." she said, never letting go of the boy's hand. It was shocking how clear the facility was suddenly. All the girls had retired to their beds and were awaiting the impending inspection leaving the hallway a mess. Errant cords and monitors littered the building what with it being the first day of establishing the base. It would remain like this for only a couple more days as things became more organized. Down the hall, Alyse looked down and saw one of the inspectors. The shorter, black-haired girl had pale skin and large glasses that made her eyes seem a little bigger than they actually were. The soldier held tighter onto Alex' hand as they approached, "And just where do you girls think you're going?" the question causing Alyse to tug Alex a little closer so the inspector couldn't scrutinized her as well. "Escorting this greenie to her dormitory, Ma'am." she lied as the girl leaned around to look the boy up and down. The high socks on his legs and baggy blouse seemed to fool her, "What's your name, Miss? So that I can account for you in my report." Alyse closed her eyes, worried that the scenario had turned to this. She only hoped Alex could pull it off or they'd both be fried.

In Julie's room, it was quiet for only a minute or so as an inspector knocked on her door, "Inspections. Have everyone in there ready." the call came from behind the door. It seemed Alyse and Alex had made it.

(No sweat. Just amusing)
"There's no use getting lost." Tom mentioned with a shrug, Chris nodding quietly in agreement. "We've got enough supplies from the truck to last us the next couple days. It's been a long day and we'll need what rest we can get now to..." he paused a moment, "Get where we're going." as if the decision had been made Chris had already started unloading his stuff, pulling the small bedroll from the backpack and laying it out. "I'll get us a fire going." Barry mentioned as he disappeared into the trees to find adequate kindling and wood. At the mention of fire, each boy would recognize just how cold it was getting with the sun gone. Summer was on its way out in a bad way.

After Isaac stepped off the bike, Wendel took a small moment to examine the bike's gear shifts and handles. It looked like he was drinking in each detail of the bike before hopping off, Do you make all this stuff his clicking question asked and it was that moment Isaac recognized that Wendel didn't really know the genius mechanic's reputation. Being so young, though, who could blame him. As he looked around the garage, his mouth opened in awe at some of the larger vehicles. What do you do to relax? We just run... he said, a frown formed on his face looking back to his new friend.
It's not about how much dough you make -- it's about how delicious a pizza you eat at the end.
