The strange thought is soon joined by others in Mendo's head. Of course Mal had to have met some women on his adventures... but where are they? Perhaps they couldn't join him here. Such a pity really... a real shame...

*Mendo blinks... glancing at Mal*
Not to interrupt... but how's a renaissance man and adventurer still single? Sorry... It was just a passing thought that I had. Heh.

Mal shrugs. "I just haven't found the right woman, I suppose..."

He hasn't found... could it be that he's looking then? Looking around, there really aren't any women here to try and gain Mal's affection... Sure, he's fun to be around right now... whoever the first woman is to walk into this place would certainly be lucky though.

*Mendo glances to the door as if expecting someone to come in... and then shakes his head, turning back to Mal*
Well... Whoever is the right one will have lucked out. Seems like you're a class act Mal.
*He pauses*
Er... Sorry if that's a weird thing to say.

"Thank you. No need to apologize. I consider your opinion in the highest regard." Mal gives Mendo a short bow, not wanting to completely turn his attention away from the sailor.

Hmm... no one came through the door... Still, it almost seems unfair. Whoever that woman is, will be lucky indeed. More lucky than Mendo. Ah, if only. If only... Mendo could be that oh so lucky person to walk through that door.

*Mendo smirks at the bow... and then furrows his brow... If he could be the one to walk through the door? What?... He was a man. Still... it was a nice thought. He glances back at the door, staring at it with a bit of a confused and lost look*

The sailor quirks his eyebrow at Mal, his defences already up! "Well, there's a song about Rudi. Here, I'll sing it..."

He takes out a small accordion, gives it a squeeze and starts singing!

Listen well you lubbers
To a tale of tears and woe
The tale of Red Rudi
And her timeless foe

Rudi served as Captain
On the vessel Gallows Humor
A pirate of some renown
The vessel was a schooner

Rudi would zip in on the Humor
And open fire with all guns
The other ship caught off guard
THe pirates would battle like Huns!

Now Rudi had a rival
A navy man through and through
His name was Davidson Jerry
Always munching on tobacco chew

Rudi and Jerry clashed many times.
On land, on ship, wherever they met.
One day, Jerry was losing
Until he cut that fateful net.

The net was full of checherries
All of which fell on Rudi
The juices splattered, doing their work.
Oh, you can bet Rudi was moody!

Now a child, Rudi was Red
Her mate attempted a coup, acting all scary.
Until Rudi gutted him
And yelled 'We're gonna get that Jerry!'

Red Rudi continued her ways
Pillaging, looting, sacking, breaking
She was hellbent on revenge
Though, often it was sweets she was taking.

Rudi didn't like keeping loot on her ship
She would store it someplace
One day, she was returning from that place
Someone had slipped her more checherries to taste.

Red Rudi was more red, all sweetness and light
The crew went to claim all that loot
But Davidson Jerry struck again
Rendering the whole point moot!

The battle was a massacre
The pirates killed to a lad
Jerry looked for Rudi
Only to find her trembling like mad!

She had forgotten the location of the loot
Jerry took her in, the pirate Rudi was not in.
They sailed back to port
The location of the treasure forgotten

And that's the story of Red Rudi
Who became Lady Rudi in time.
Her treasure is still out there
You wanna find it, get in line!

Mal nods and claps along to the beat of the merry tune. Once done, he laughs and slaps the sailor on the back. "Well played, friend! I'll admit, you've got me intrigued!" The sailor's defenses may be up, but Mal only seems interested in the story, and congratulating him on a song well sung. What a pal!

Hmm... it is a nice though indeed, Mendo thinks. To be the woman who walks through that door and becomes the object of Mal's attention... even his affection... maybe it would be worth it?

*Blinks, still gazing at the door... before shaking his head and attempting to banish those thoughts to the back of his mind. It would be so nice... but... The song! Hey, the song was good! He claps at the end along with Mal.*
Ah pirates, such an entertaining bunch. Good show man, that was wonderful!
*He tries to switch his focus back to the sailors.*

The sailor blinks and grins, putting the accordion away as he continues.

"Thing is, it's hard to separate fact from fiction. There was a pirate called Red Rudi and a sailor called Davidson Jerry, but if Red Rudi was turned into a little girl at some point, no one saw her as such and lived. Jerry's wife was infertile and they did adopt a little girl, but records show that he got her from a nearby orphanage."

"Such is always the case with myth and legend, no matter the age." Mal nods sagely. "There has to be some kind of clue to this treasure besides the wonderful song and story." He keeps his arm around the sailor, who might suddenly notice a distinct lack of feminine company around such a friendly and interesting character.

Mendo is able to fill his head, wondering about and conversing with the various salty dogs in the tavern. Whenever he has a free moment though, the thoughts sneakily creep back in. Why couldn't he be the girl at Mal's arm?

*The ninja smirks, glad for the brief respite from the strange feelings*
In any case, it seems like something worth investigating. Who doesn't like treasure.
*Chuckling, he scoots closer to Mal... slapping him on the back*
What say you we all go adventure?
*That'd give him some more time close to Mal... and more time to think*

The sailor gives a small grin, though he doesn't mention Mal's lack of female company. He doesn't know the guy, maybe he has a lass back home. He looks at Mendo and chuckles.

"Well, sure. As long as we give up before a week has gone, that's when I ship back out."

Mal gets a sly grin. "You mean when we succeed within the week." He reaches to the bar and takes hold of a small glass of scotch before downing it in one gulp. "It sounds like you're keen on accompanying us on our treasure hunt. I'd appreciate the assistance, especially since it would take up your valuable shore leave." He sets the glass down. "I'd appreciate your help too, Mendo!"

Of course, Mal most likely does have a lass at home... and a few more on the way here. It seems strange to the sailor that one with such an air of a ladies' man isn't accompanied by any fine women. That doesn't keep him from being friendly and interesting though.

Ah, see? Mal appreciates Mendo just as he is! He doesn't seem to care one way or the other... but somehow, Mendo can't help but feel that the compliment would mean more to him if he wasn't a he...

*Mendo chuckles... and wonders on that for a moment. It would be nice to hear that if it were meant in a more endearing way... He shakes his head again*
My pleasure Mal... Always nice to help an adventurer in need.
*He extends his hand for a shake*
