The Mungojerrie: Enemies, Yet Friends

Callista: *pushes aside the empty tub of macaroni* Before you ask her if you can spend some time at the Manor sometime, could you let that waitress know that I'm ready to order?

*blinks* Um, sure. *to Circe* How about you? Do you know what you want?

[Ookalf]

*Circe nods.* Yes, I think so.

[AmbushCat]

Alright. We'll talk later, Circe-chan!

*There's a blur of black, orange and white as Aldonza hypers into the kitchen... and then hypers back out a few seconds later, placing the waitress in the spot she'd been standing in previously before returning to work. The waitress looks disoriented at first, but recovers remarkably quickly.*

Waitress #73: Um... excuse me. *coughs a few times* Sorry. Anyway, what can I get for you both?

[Ookalf]

Right... I will have the fried chicken meal, with onion rings on the side. Callista?

[AmbushCat]

*Callista hands the waitress a 90-minute audio tape. One can see the question marks popping up over the poor employee's head.*

Waitress #73: What... is this, co-boss?

Callista: I know you're hiding a Walkman in the kitchen, Stella. Put it to good use.

Waitress #73: Yes, I will, but... what is this?

Callista: A tape, of course. I couldn't find an unused paper towel roll to write my order on, so I had to make do with what I could find.

*The waitress nods, still not understanding. She bows, then turns to go back to the kitchen. Almost as soon as she reaches the kitchen door, realization strikes, and she makes a little nervous "eeep" sound before she disappears inside.*

[Ookalf]

...Your order is so long that you felt the need to record it?

[AmbushCat]

Callista: *grins and flashes the Victory sign* Bin-go!

[Ookalf]

And that doesn't strike you as at all excessive?

[AmbushCat]

Callista: *looks genuinely confused* Ex...cess-ive? Me no speak your Eng-lish, meine bruja.

[Ookalf]

*Circe sighs.* Excessive, adjective - going beyond the usual, necessary, or proper limit or degree; characterized by excess. ...That clear enough?

[AmbushCat]

Callista: *scratches the back of her head* Word's just not part of my vocabulary. Sorry, Circe, but I just don't get it.

*In the background, the pianist finishes the piece he was playing and receives some scattered applause. He moves on to one of Tchaikovsky's works shortly thereafter.*

[Ookalf]

That figures... *Circe looks in the direction of the kitchen for a moment, then shrugs and pulls a notebook out of her pocket, and starts flipping through it.*

Callista: *sips some klah, then leans back in her seat, pondering* I think that waitress is one of yours, if memory serves... I can't really keep track of all of them... Stella's work ethic is decent enough, certainly good enough for the Mungojerrie, but she's too easily distracted by things. I was told once that she plugs in her earphones if she's assigned to cook that day.

[Ookalf]

*Circe turns a page.* Uh-huh. And that detracts from her ability to cook?

[AmbushCat]

Callista: ...Well, sort of. I think it sets a bad example for the other employees. They're good cooks, certainly, but they still have the potential to improve. You don't really think they can work to the best of their ability if they're all listening to Bon Jovi or---L-sama forbid---Metallica up close and personal, do you?
...That, and I don't like the idea of earphones accidentally being dropped into boiling water.
