Mistaken Identity: Enter Midori

(For Muffin~!)

Muffinville Park

As cool, crisp Autumn slowly overtakes the blistering heat of Summer days the citizens flock to the local park to partake in the tradition of watching once emerald-green leaves shift to colors of fiery red and golden yellow. Indeed it is a perfect time and place for acquaintanceships to be created, friendships forged, and romances kindled!

For who knows whose path one might cross on such an auspicious afternoon?

One such auspicious person stands at the entrance of the park, looking at a small slip of paper. It is a woman in japanese garb who timidly looks to all the comers and goers. Multiple times, she seems about to ask someone for something, going so far as to raise a finger... and then backs away. She studies the paper some more, and slowly wanders through the park, paying special attention to the other patrons. If one would look closely, they might notice she is scanning them... looking for some identifying tidbit or feature that no doubt is instructed on her note.

As the young maiden scans the audience, a loud explosion rocks the park to the south! Suddenly NPCs flock over to see what the commotion is about! From the sounds of screeching and hollering it would appear that some fight has broken out!

The maiden leaps in place, startled visibly by the noise of it all. She looks south, placing a hand over her chest in an effort to calm herself. She initially backs away from the sounds of the fight, but looks at the note again. With a sour little frown, she gulps and slowly heads towards the commotion.

A relatively small crowd of NPCs gather around a young blue-garbed gentleman locked in mortal combat with a ferocious beast that is both yet neither owl and bear. Clearly one of the city's dreaded Bear-Owls has struck again.

"R-Relax," stammers the mage, raising his cane in a defensive stance. "I have this perfectly under control. No need to panic~!" ^^||

He turns his gaze upon the massive beast before him.

"HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!"

With a ear-piercing screen the monster suddenly charges the mage.

"Eep!" @__@||

The maiden cranes her neck as best she can to see through the crowd. She looks down at the note and back up at the strange man repeatedly, as if confirming something. Then, as the Bear-Owl charges, she gasps. "Oh no! I'm too late!"

With a mighty swipe of its fell-claw the monster knocks the poor lad onto his back, before turning towards the crowd and letting out a triumphant roar. NPCs quickly scatter soon leaving the poor young lady alone to face the beast!

The maiden looks wide-eyed at the fallen form of the odd man, and then turns her startled attention to the beast. "Um... please stay back?" She trembles visibly as she assumes an overhead kendo stance... and a beam of light hardens into a sword-like shape in her hands. "P-PP-Please?"

The beast lumbers forward, clearly not intimidated by the weapon. It had endured the attention of exploding wizards; what reason had it to fear a magical girl?

Meanwhile, the funny wizard groans, sitting up and clutching his forehead.

"But I don't wanna go to Magic Class," @.@ he groans, quite dazed from his encounter with the Bear-Owl.

The girl's lip trembles and tears well up in the corner of her eyes. She swallows a lump in her throat and squeezes her eyes tight before charging and shouting her battle cry.

"My most sincere apologies!!!!!!!"

The beasts screeches and bull rushes the girl, attempting to make quick work of her with a terrible swipe of its fiendish claw.

"SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~!"

The mage, at last gaining control of his senses, turns to witness the unfolding melee and immediately jumps to his feet.

"Miss, stop! That thing is a feral Owl Bear! It'll tear you to ribbons!" he yells, quickly rushing over to try to stop it.

Still with her eyes closed, the girl charges past the bear. Little droplets of tears stream behind her and reflect the light of her shining katana as she swings through it. She only stops running until she is well past it... hoping that her speed and swing were enough to preserve her from the scary monster!

The beast lunges past Midori, attempting to rip her to ribbons with its terrible claws. Of course, staying true to cinematic tradition, they manage to run past each other as their blows connect!

There is a long awkward pause interrupted only by the doink of a Shishi-odoshi and theeeen.....

GRAWWWWR!

The Owl-Bears hand is severed cleanly from its limb as dark ooze bleeds outwards, staining the green grass and leaving stains from which life shan't grow back any time soon. The beast howls in agony, clearly confused by this strange twist of events.

It is of course at this most opportune of moments that the mage finally manages to contribute productively to the melee.

"TOXIC CLAW!" he shouts, as he lunges towards the one-armed monster, slashing at is back with a sickly green spectral claw.

"Heh," it actually worked this time, he mumbles to himself, relieved.

After holding her pose for the appropriate dramatic effect, the girl's blade vanishes in a twinkling. She turns to look at the beast, wiping the tears from her cheeks. "I didn't want to hu-Ack!" She backs away quickly, twirling her arms to keep her balance. "That's icky!" She looks herself over to make sure she didn't get any of the super gross deadly toxins on herself.

"Oi!" says the mage, having fortunately knocked out the Owl Bear with his attack. "You OK miss?"
