Nephilim wrote:"No problem. Come back any time!" Meryl gave James a farewell wave. As she watched the businessman leave The Club, she noted, with some satisfaction, that the businessman's butt seemed a fair bit rounder than it was before he walked in. "Huh. Looks like your luck's already beginning to change..."
The trek back to his car was uneventful, though his gait was off the whole way. His legs curved in with every move which forced him to swing his hips around if he didn't want to fall over. Also, the top half of his part was unusually tight, restricting his strides to small dainty steps.
Nephilim wrote:The drive was thankfully short but also incredibly weird. Everything in the car, from the seats to the steering wheel, seemed to slowly but gradually grow in size with each stoplight James passed. Even his hair was in on the growing action, tickling the back of his neck and getting in his eyes. By the time he arrived at the office, his feet couldn’t even reach the gas and brake pedals!
Nephilim wrote:The office building was small and unassuming when compared to the other towering buildings of the city, but there were still quite a few workers inside. Most of them were hunkering down for a long night of filing and report-writing, but some of them took a moment to throw some strange looks at the short androgynous youth who just arrived. Still, no one bothered to stop James, who was practically unrecognizable at this point, from going up to see his dad.
When James walked in, his father was busy stewing behind a computer screen. It seemed as though he was almost always angry these days; years of having to deal with a failing business and rebellious sons had apparently left him broken and bitter. It showed on his face through deep lines and gray streaks, both of which James could clearly see after his father lifted himself off of his chair and rubbed his eyes in frustration.
"What the hell took you so long?"
Nephilim wrote:"Of course I do! Why do you think I-" James' father started, but he was derailed from his tirade when he saw his son's outlandish appearance. "Christ! What the hell did you do to yourself now!?"
He rushed away from his desk to grab James by the shoulders, but he suddenly pulled back at the last second with a strange dazed look in his eyes.
"I-I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me..." He shook his head to clear his thoughts then turned back to James. The anger on his face was gone. Instead, there was something there that James hadn't seen in a long while. A smile. "Yes. I called you here because I want you to stop working so hard. You've already done so much for me and our business!"
