Aye, that is the way I tend to look at it. Only thing I've ever found I don't like on my vanilla is fish. Ice cream and fish don't go together well apparently.

Raleigh: Contagious disease. Turns the victim's innards into flames. Had to contain it before he became patient zero for an epidemic and the sample would prove useful for another event around twenty years later.

Probably. An advantage of being closely linked to an element is usually a degree of immunity or protection from it.

Ellen: ...Which leads me to ask a question. Can you tell me about black flames?

You mean the ones I use or any other particular expression of the concept? The ones I use are parts of creation that were used to create what you perceive as the black expanse of outer space. Very little of it left so it is carefully handled.

Ellen: ...I was thinking closer to what Zapana uses for her take on the Kokuryuha technique. I've seen bits and pieces of the show it came from, and I'm familiar enough with the idea to know that her version of it isn't demonic or spiritualistic in nature, so it leaves me confused as to how she was able to start creating it.

My guess is she is just creating a flame hot enough to match a flame from the depths of the Makai. The Kokuryuha is known to be a form of hellfire after a fashion. If her version lacks any spiritual or demonic component it really should only look the same either due to choice or as a consequence of heat. The heat may be causing a slight shift in the light around the fire.

Ellen: ... ...That makes sense, I guess. She tried explaining it to me back when we were both younger, but at the time I didn't have the stomach to hear the full explanation.

I think she really should consider learning Venom. It is a fairly comparable fire spell. Burns even a fire elemental into slush in fact.
