Oh, uh, I see... *Sassafras goes quiet for a minute.* Should I ask about that one? Or do you not want to talk about it...?

Hm? ...Oh, right. May as well.

See, Bernard was the oldest of us. He had this thing for motorcycles, liked to fool around with them and hang out with neighbors who had 'em. Eventually when he was old enough to have his own, he went through all the legal stuff needed to own one and learn how to drive it. It was fun for about two weeks.

Then some far-too-drunk moron with a steering wheel permanently put an end to his fun. *shakes his head, grimacing* Because of that, alcoholism's one of the few things I never joke about on-stage.

((OOC: Some minor trivia: I did use Bernard as a character for a time as a kid, but I never developed his personality or appearance much. He was essentially just the "cool big brother" type of individual that Teasy would've looked up to. Eventually I realized that I was utilizing him less and less compared to the rest of the family, and came up with the bike crash to explain his disappearance.))

Back in the summer of 1992. My brothers and I were starting hero work at around that time, and tracking down the guy who did it was one of our first cases as a team. To his credit he was genuinely apologetic, though he still got a dual sentence of prison time and community service. I checked on him recently, and according to the police and his neighbor's he's gone cold turkey.

*chuckles softly and puts his shades back on* I just realized that I've been talking your ears off for a little while. Anything else in particular you want to know?

Oh, right. We have been going for a bit... *Sassafras looks around at some of the other people in the area.* I'm probably good now, though. Was there anything else you wanted to talk about?

Well, I can think of at least one thing. Concerns my ex-boss. *retrieves a pamphlet from off to the side and flips through it* The local stations here have these weekly programs that give background on some of the PFL's fighters. You familiar with that at all, even if it's just by proxy?

*Sassafras nods.* Yeah, I watch PFL stuff on TV sometimes... Why, does your old boss work for one of those shows?

She does from time to time, sure, but that's not what I'm concerned with. *finds what he's looking for in the pamphlet* There's at least one glaring inaccuracy in that report they did about her recently, and it made its way into these brochures they published. Here, I'll show it to you. *holds it open so Sassafras can see it*

*The page shows a photo of hybrid-Callista in a nice turquoise dress, adorned with gemstones of the same name. However, anyone with an eye for fashion will note that the dress's neckline is cut in such a way that Callista normally wouldn't be caught dead in such attire. As such she also has a massive scarf wrapped around her neck, with one end dangling down so that it conceals most of her upper torso. This might contribute to her thumbing her nose and sticking out her tongue at someone off-camera. The caption beneath the photo reads: "'I'll only play your game if you play mine!'"*

*Following that is a short list of statistics, including her name, age (both visual and actual), favorite food (macaroni & cheese) and music (classical and new age), nickname ("Kitten Claws"), hobbies, Pokemon species, and assigned tier. What Teasy seems to be trying to point out, though, is the description of her that they printed.*

"Callista is one of the PFL's most polarizing competitors. Unpredictable and unruly, loved for her good sportsmanship as much as she's hated for her temper and 'high standards of living', it's hard to tell what she's going to do next. By her own words, she joined the league because it gives her 'something to do in-between shopping trips'. Muffinville Quarterly has named her one of the ten richest people on the Continent, so we find it strange that she doesn't throw her money around more often. In addition, she's chosen to avoid romantic entanglements of any kind at all costs. 'Fall in love for appearance's sake? Whatever you're on, I don't want it', she stated when asked why.

"Callista's origins are hard to pin down, given that she's remarkably silent on the matter. What's known about her is that she emerged in Muffinville in 2009 as a full-blooded human and immediately started making a name for herself as the Continent's most notorious shopper. Our sources indicate that her mutation is unnatural, given her general dislike for magic, and may stem from her love of cats more than anything else. While some say she's a former superhero, this has been dismissed on the whole by experts. 'No self-identifying superhero would willingly take charge of the rabble-rousing Brotherhood', said YZA anchorwoman Terra Tanuki in an interview."

*Sassafras reads the article carefully.* Huh... You mean the part where they say she wasn't a superhero?

Sure, that one's the most obvious one. But they also made an error in assuming that her mutation's unnatural. I should know; I was present when she first got it.

((OOC: Edited slightly to account for an error in judgment. Oops. ()^_^ ))

Given how frightening she gets when she's #^&%ed off, I can understand why they'd think it's unnatural, but really it was the result of extreme science. You ever see that one Ninja Turtles movie, "Secret of the Ooze"?

The day we first met Curtis---

Scrolling marquee: -"Callista's prior self, not me."-

*waits a few seconds to ensure there won't be any more interruptions before continuing* ...me and my bros took him and a few others on a tour of a swank new villa we had built to use as our HQ on Earth. The place was entirely self-sufficient. Had its own water supply, power supply, everything. The power generators in particular were using a similar sort of ooze as a specialized coolant, and the one in charge warned the kids not to try messing with any of the canisters they were in. *rolls his eyes behind his shades* Kids being kids, they behaved like complete idiots and opened one of the canisters while the guide's back was turned.

Since us Kittenoans were the last ones they'd come in contact with, they mutated to match. Curtis absorbed the largest dose of the slime, so his mutation was irreversible by conventional means. The other three got smaller doses and figured out how to switch between the two forms at will.
