Maid #46: *shakes her head* Y'know, Sassy, I have to feel sorry for Madison sometimes. I've been keeping track: she's been called thirty different names aside from her own for as long as I've known her.

Wait, seriously? *Sassafras blinks.* ...Both to the number, and the fact that you actually counted. But for real, how'd it get to that point? It's not like her name is complicated or anything...

Maid #46: Dunno. It's not malicious or anything, I know that. In my experience she's very well-respected. You're familiar with that Burt---excuse me, Butch character on "Pokemon"? It's kind of like that.

I can't say I'm exempt from it, either. She introduced herself to me when we first met, and then a minute later I accidentally called her "Milhouse", like the Simpsons character.

Pfft, seriously? But that's not even... *Sassafras shakes her head.* Weird. Just... very strange. I hope it doesn't bother her too much...

Maid #46: Personally, I think at this point she's gotten used to it, even though she probably doesn't like it. She's probably figured out that it's not really intentional, that it's just something that happens. Sort of like me; I've had to get used to people calling me different numbers from time to time after I had my name changed. They're not trying to be mean about it.

Yeah, I guess... By the way, I never got around to your booth to ask, but, what's the deal with the number, anyway? Did you forget your name or something?

Oh. Well, my birth name was Nanette, but I eventually found out that it means something derogatory in one alien language I've heard about. Closest translation I got was "scum on the scum's shoes".

Completely ignoring that in English, it means "grace" or "merciful".

*ignores Sabrina* And my parents are ^#$%*#^% anyway, so I decided I didn't want anything to do with them. So when I got nabbed and pressed into working here way back when, I gave my name as Maid #46. It just sounded cooler to me. I later got it legally changed to match.

Huh... So why 46? That just a number you like, or what?

*shrug* Yeah, pretty much. No real special reason why I picked it other than that.

Dulcinea: I'm still surprised you kept it after you got Scarlet-ified. There tend to be an odd number of name changes to go along with fruit swaps, I've noticed.

*shrugs again* Just didn't see the need.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever had to change my name for that of thing... But then, I don't think I get changed all that often to begin with, so I dunno. *Sassafras shrugs.* I'm probably lucky for that, huh?

Probably. I mean, I realize Muffinville's motto is "The only constant is change", but I feel like going through too much change too often doesn't really do the psyche any favors. You've got a general idea of what I'm trying to say, right?

Mm, I think? *Sassafras tilted her head.* Though, I feel like there are some people who change a lot and end up mostly OK? Probably depends on the person... Not that I really know, or anything.

Huh... I'm inclined to think that magic's involved in stuff like that. I mean, left by itself, most mortal minds aren't really that adaptable, so something has to help them adjust super-quickly.

I've been fortunate on that score. I thought that this form was my first change when I first got it, but after I got my memories back I learned that it was actually my second. So, I've had three different forms total, with something like... five years between both changes? I think?

Closer to six, but who's counting?
